Stephen Duntley Obituary

Stephen Duntley

Stephen (Steve) Quimby Duntley, 76, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, January 27, 2023 at his home in Coolin, Idaho with his loving wife Suzanne by his side. Celebrations of Life Services will be held this summer and he asked for this verse to be read which are words he lived by; "A man who allowed the word of God to fall on good soil, with an honest and good heart; who held it fast and bore fruit with perseverance." (Luke 8:15) His greatest heart's desire was to introduce others to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

Steve was born on May 21, 1946 in Boston, MA to Quimby and Mabel Duntley. He spent summers on an island on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire and attended Bishops High School in La Jolla, CA. He attended San Diego State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree on January 28, 1979. He graduated with a Master's Degree from Melodyland School of Theology, Anaheim California, on May 30, 1982. He served at Loma Linda and Tri-Cities Hospital as a Hospital Chaplin.

He served his country in the United States Navy on a battleship during the Vietnam War and was stationed in San Diego, California. In San Diego he worked for General Dynamics, Science Applications International, and Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) as an applications manager.

Steve married Suzanne Lazar on March 11, 1995 in San Diego. In 2014, they moved to Priest Lake, Idaho.

Steve was a member of Priest Lake Community Church, serving as a Missions Coordinator and Church of Faith in Oldtown, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching bible study at church and in his home. He was also a member of the Gideon's, Coast Guard Auxiliary in CA & Priest Lake, Priest Lake Lions Club, Coolin Community Civic Center Secretary and Coolin Cavanaugh Bay Fire District Volunteer. Throughout his life he enjoyed outdoor adventures, traveling, fishing, boating, model trains, and Star Trek movies. He and his wife often hosted missionary families in his home.

He is survived by his wife Suzanne Duntley of Priest Lake; children Anne Duntley, Steve Duntley, Patricia Garcia, Stephanie Hammett, and Christine Henderson; 16 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and sisters Nola Pierce and Susan McKinney.

I knew Steve when I lived in San Diego a number of years ago. He was a good friend and a good guy. I am saddened to hear of his loss and my deepest sympathies go out to his family.
