Gregory Potter Obituary

GREGORY RAY POTTER Gregory Ray Potter died at home after a long illness on October 17, 2025, in Sugar Hill, GA. He was the son of Alton Paul Potter ( died 6/1/1984) and Joan Szweczyk (died 8/22/68) of West Branch, NY, and was a member of St. Monica's Church in Suwanee, GA. Greg grew up in Canastota with his brother (Paul J. Potter) before moving to West Branch. He worked in West Branch on road construction with his father. Greg served in the US Navy as a Radio Man in Vietnam and later graduated from SUNY College with a degree in engineering. During college, Greg lived in Floyd, NY, and worked for Rome NewChannel's, where he met his wife Nancy J.(Brzoza) originally of W. Rutland, VT in 1985. Surviving are two children (twins), daughter Nicole M. Potter (Statesboro, GA) and son Jonathan P. Potter (Turner, OR), and two grandchildren, Camilla and Roslyn Potter of Niceville, FL, and Sister-in-law Carol Potter (West Branch, NY). Greg was best known as a Veteran Ham Radio Operator (NM2L), member of the ARRL, with long-standing experience and a reputation for his proficiency in Morse code, along with his DXpedition to both Mellis Reef and Wills Island off the coast of Australia. Greg had a great love for ham radio, beginning as a young boy speaking with people from all over the world. Poppy, if I could hear your voice, to see you smile, to sit and talk to you a while, to be together in the same old way, would be my greatest wish today. You will be so deeply missed. No services were held. A celebration of life will be planned in 2026.
