MARSHA LYNN DAVIS
Lifelong Howard and Cooper County resident and former Howard County Public Administrator, Marsha (Persinger) Davis, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Marsha was born April 29, 1940, in
Boonville, MO. She was the youngest of two girls born to the late Charles and Mildred (Varney) Persinger. She graduated from Boonville High School in 1958. On May 27, 1972, Marsha married Joseph Jefferson "Joe Jeff" Davis in Osage Beach, MO. Together, the couple enjoyed over 42 years of marriage. Joe Jeff preceded Marsha in death on August 29, 2014.
Along with the many years spent raising her children, she was always helping her husband, Joe Jeff, with farming and with their many other entrepreneurial endeavors. Marsha brought life and warmth to their businesses, the Highway Café Restaurant in Fayette and the Boonesboro Country Store. She was also a dedicated public servant, including spending many years working as a Care Coordinator for the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging (CMAAA), and was elected as the Public Administrator for Howard County for three consecutive four-year terms. She was also employed as a supervisor in Medical Records at the University of Missouri Hospital during the 1960s.
Marsha was a long-time member of the Lisbon Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years, and an active member of Boonesboro Christian Church. She served on the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Women's Democratic Club. She had a heart for service, and a smile that would ease the worries of all who encountered herboth in her work and personal life.
Marsha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Above all else, she loved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs; however, nothing brought her more joy than watching her children and grandchildren play sports through the years. Marsha loved playing cards with family, tending to her flowers, and watching the sun set outside her living room window.
In the years since Joe Jeff's passing in 2014, Marsha spent much of her time traveling with her daughter Stacey, often to Wisconsin to visit her sister Carole and niece Nancy. She also had a deep love and compassion for all animals, especially her many dogs and cats through the years. Marsha loved deeply and often, a truth reflected in all the friends and family she leaves behind.
Marsha is survived by her four children: Brett (Sharryn) Hawkes of Bonnots Mill, MO; Stacey Hawkes of Jefferson City; Tony (Bobbie) Hawkes of Guntersville, AL; and Jeff (Heather) Davis of Fayette; one sister, Carole Schmidt of Muskego, WI; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, Ja'Kaylah Hayes; one nephew; three great nephews; one niece; three great nieces; and her beloved kitty Bella.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Jeff Davis; daughter, Candace Hawkes; two stepdaughters, Pam Davis and Dianna Dale Shallenburger; nephew, Dan Schmidt; and Leonard Hawkes.
Visitation will be held from 4:007:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette. A Memorial Service to celebrate Marsha's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Faith Family Church in Fayette, with Rev. Jamie Page officiating. Burial and a luncheon will follow the service at Boonesboro Christian Church and Cemetery in Boonesboro, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), the
Alzheimer's Association, and Boonesboro Christian Church Cemetery, in care of Friemonth-Freese Funeral Service, 174 Hwy 5 & 240 N., Fayette, MO 65248.
