Ernest Burkes, Jr. passed away Tuesday, Oct 26, 2021, at The Medical Lodge in Amarillo.

He was born on July 24, 1929, at Wetumka, Oklahoma to Annabelle (Collins) and Ernest Burkes, Sr.

He was Southern Baptist and a member of the Elks Lodge. A longtime resident of Borger, he worked as an operator for the Copoly plant in Borger for 45 years. He loved rodeoing, bowling and golfing. He was full of life and always humorous. His daughter, Helen, states:'' He was my rock and always included me in everything he did".

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters: Juanita Vaughn and Mildred Smith.

Left behind to forever hold dear his memory is his daughter, Helen Sue Smith of Amarillo; a grandson, Tracy Ryan Smith and wife Kristyn Lee of Casa Grande, Arizona; three great grandchildren: Kaylee Jo Smith of Washington, Leeam McClain Smith of Case Grande, Arizona and Domonic Wendell of Casa Grande, Arizona; nieces: Nancy Woodfin, Phyllis Montgomery, Debbie Knox and Linda Pangle and nephews: David Wayne Smith and Ronald Smith.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 1, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains, 206 W. 1st Street, Borger.

A come-and-go visitation will be held Sunday, October 31, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Directors, Borger.
