Joey Supthen Obituary
Born on July 5th, 1939, to Joe and Marjorie Sutphen in Phillips, TX, into a family renowned for their barbecue passion, Joey inherited not just the family's secret sauce but also their boundless passion for barbecue and chili.
Growing up amidst the smoky scents of oak and hickory, Joey quickly learned that barbecue was more than food - it was a way of bringing people together. That was his superpower. With his pistol smokers, outlandish outfits, and bigger-than-life personality, he became the heart and soul of every room he walked in, making everyone feel valued, cherished and always laughing.
From his beginnings, he once said, "his pacifier was dipped in barbeque sauce" and he turned that taste into a lifetime career with numerous achievements. He was a champion! His joy was infectious, and his generosity knew no bounds.
Joey is survived by his nephew, Greg Sutphen, niece and husband; Shelly and Miguel Garcia, great-nephew (grandson), Blake Garcia, the Garcia family, and in true Joey fashion, a circle of friends who shared his lifelong adventures for decades.
There will be a graveside service May 30th, 2024, 10am, at Westlawn Memorial Park, Borger, TX. Joey's legacy will live on not just in the smoky flavors that infused his life but in the warmth, and joy he brought to every place he graced. His was a life well-lived, full of adventures, laughter, passion, and an unwavering love for people!

I was born in Phillips and was same age as Scott. I worked in High school with Joey. I had many wonderful experience catering to different parts of the state with him. He always treated me like part of the Sutphen's family. He will be missed.

Last time I saw Joey was at the play Texas serving that famous BBQ. Will always remember their place in Phillips for the clown portrait that said "I complained about my shoes until I met a man with no feet.". Rest in peace my friend. Y'all were family. Julie Allison

Joey was my friend, and I will miss him. I was the same age as his brother Scott. We attend Phillips schools, I worked at the Bar B Q place that they owned. Helped them cater to thousands of people. I lasted talked to Joey when he was in KY. God Bless and watch over you my friend.
