Condolences to Jackie and to Al's family. We will always remember Al as a guy who was always fixing things. We remember his curiosity for all things. We will remember how much he loved and admired Jackie too. We will remember his hospitality when we visited them in Arizona; and what a great conversationalist he was. We can see him jogging up there in Heaven and asking God a bunch of questions.

I worked with Dr. Bothe at Univ of Chicago. I learned so much from him and appreciated his insight and guidance. When he spoke with you he was very engaged and interested regardless of topic. A great man that I respected very much. Rest in peace.

Al was a truly magnificent human being who always did the right thing. It was an honor to have worked with him closely at Geisinger. He and Jackie were the consummate couple - thoughtful, loving and full of life. I will miss him.

Al was a close and dear friend. a master clinician, a superb mentor for surgical trainees, and a extremely dedicated physician in providing care to his patients during our shared early years at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. His administrative skills were critical to the Department of Surgery at the BIDMC and his long association with ASPEN that extended long beyond his Presidency and to his later career at the University of Chicago and Geisinger Medical Center which were exemplary. He was a good man and will be missed.
