ALFRED VISCO Obituary

VISCO, Alfred R. Of Framingham, formerly of Wellesley, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday, January 14, 2022, at St. Patrick's Manor after succumbing to a prolonged illness. Born and raised in Newton, Al was the 9th of 10 children of the late Nunziato N. and Philomena (Leone) Visco. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy M. (Cameron) Visco, who died in 2007, shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Al was a member of the Newton North High School class of 1947. He was an active member in the Reunion Committee and loved to bring people together and reestablishing friendships. He honorably served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service, Al graduated from Boston University in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. Following graduation from Boston University, Al worked for RCA and Joy Manufacturing before commencing a 27-year career at Polaroid Corporation. Over the course of his career at Polaroid, Al worked as an Industrial Engineer and in Corporate Real Estate. His passion for the company continued as he met for monthly luncheons with his Polaroid friends for 20+ years, following his retirement. For many years, Saturday nights for Al and Dottie included square dancing or ballroom dancing with friends. He joined Dottie for hikes and helped in her garden as she became less able to do so on her own. His devotion as a husband has always been an inspiration to his family and friends. In his free time, Al enjoyed woodworking in his basement workshop building furniture; puttering around the house; and in his retirement years, building whirly gigs for his grandchildren. He was a patient problem solver who enjoyed a good challenge. Al liked reading, traveling, meeting new people, and having family over for cookout dinners. He was a great storyteller, a genuine friend, and a humble servant who spent many hours volunteering at St. Patrick's Manor before going there to live. Al was an optimist who was hard to rattle, always firm in his values and beliefs. Al is survived by his children, Laura Laverdiere and her husband, Capt. Marc Laverdiere, USN, JAGC, Ret. of Springfield, VA, Linda Panetta and her husband John of Hampstead, NH, Sarah Drake and her husband Gregory of Franklin, MA, and David Visco of Douglas, MA. Al is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Caitlin Laverdiere Leslie and her husband, Brian, Andrew Laverdiere, Marie Laverdiere, John Panetta, Jr., and his wife Ashley, Stephen Panetta and fiancée Ariana Roche, Alexander Drake, Trevor Drake, Christopher Drake, and Brian Drake; and 4 great-grandchildren: Annelise Leslie, Collin Leslie, William Panetta, and Everett Panetta; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a time of Visitation on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, from 5-7 PM at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St., (corner of Union Ave.) FRAMINGHAM. His Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 10 AM at St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Road (Rt. 9 Framingham Ctr.).
