Alice Kruger

KRUGER, Alice (Lewis) Age 106, on November 10, 2008, of West Newton. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Kruger. Loving mother of Fred of Riverside, CA, and the late Martin of Sharon. Grandmother of Fred's son Jonathan and Martin's son Gabriel. Dear sister of the late Morse, Saul and Jason Lewis, Elliot Newmark, and Rose L. Rossman. In the 1920s she worked as a state income tax assessor and then for the federal prohibition dept, and in 1927 after dating for 7 years her late husband to whom she was married for the next 71 years, embarked on a 3-month honeymoon car and tent camping drive to California and back at a time when paved highways west between cities ceased at St. Louis. In the 1950s and 6Os she was associated with the women's auxiliary of the one-time Allerton Hospital, later called the New Brookline Hospital, of which her late husband was a long time trustee and past president. With her husband, a Harvard and Harvard law grad, she took and enjoyed numerous music and art courses there. Born January 21, 1902 in Boston, her late parents, Hymen Lewis and Ida Kurinsky Lewis, were both born in Russia. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Sharon Memorial Park.
