Andrew and I served while deployed to Honduras back in 2001-02. We became really good friends, spend a lot time together, lifted weights at the gym, go out to town together. When I found out about what happened to him I was in disbelief. Up to this date I can't believe you are gone. I miss you Cpl Farrar. Rest In Peace brother.

It's been over ten years now since we we lost a great person and one of the best Marines I've ever known. I met you on July 23, 2003, which was my 29th birthday, and it seems like just last week since we last spoke. I finally got your memorial tattoo on my arm finished yesterday, it took almost 7 months because I had a massive heart attack on April 28 and my wife saved me by doing CPR for over 10 minutes. I guess I'll have to wait to see you again. God bless you and your family. SEMPER FI Andrew.

It has now been 10 yrs since I first met Sgt.Farrar. I was a 29 yr. old boot that was a former Ssgt. in the army for ten years but I was quickly intimidated by this tall muscular Marine that I quickly became influenced by. He carried himself as an iron made Marine when the uniform was on, like the poster Marine everyone saw and wanted to be when signing up at the recruiters office, and lightened up very little in civys. You are thought of and missed daily. And to his family my sympathy to the Man and the Marine that ya'll lost. God bless you and yours. SEMPER FI!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the Farrar Family:
It's hard to believe that four years have past since Andy was taken. I still remember the first time I met him, and the last time I saw him. I spoke to him a few days before he died and made an off hand remark about how terrible it would be if we lost a Marine so close to going home (we only had a few more weeks).

He laughed it off and said "We'll all make it back".

I still miss him.

Just a short memory - I remember being in science class with Andy in 8th grade. He was very quiet and always kind. The teacher drew a graph on the board and asked the class if we knew what it was. I shot back, "looks like a tough bike ride!". I remember that I got Andy to laugh and smile very big and that made me happy. Shortly after that we were good teammates on the junior basketball league team.

I've learned that there are only few people we are lucky enough to cross paths with in life that are true Saints, even if it is for a moment. We crossed paths twenty years ago. I am eternally grateful. Thank you.

THE MARINE STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS, HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD NOW, YOU MARINE, HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?" THE MARINE SQUARED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID, "NO, LORD, I GUESS I AIN'T BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO CARRY GUNS CAN'T ALWAYS BE A SAINT. I HAD TO WORK MOST SUNDAYS AND AT TIMES MY TALK WAS TOUGH, AND SOMETIMES I'VE BEEN VIOLENT, BECAUSE THE WORLD IS AWFULLY ROUGH. BUT I NEVER TOOK A PENNY THAT WASN'T MINE TO KEEP... THOUGH I WORKED A LOT OF OVERTIME WHEN THE BILLS JUST GOT TOO STEEP. AND I NEVER PASSED A CRY FOR HELP, THOUGH AT TIMES I SHOOK WITH FEAR, AND SOMETIMES, GOD FORGIVE ME, I'VE WEPTED UNMANLY TEARS. I KNOW I DON'T DESERVE A PLACE AMONG THE PEOPLE HERE, THEY NEVER WANTED ME AROUND EXCEPT TO CALM THEIR FEARS. IF YOU'VE A PLACE FOR ME HERE, LORD, IT NEEDN'T BE SO GRAND, I NEVER EXPECTED OR HAD TOO MUCH, BUT IF YOU DON'T, I'LL UNDERSTAND. THERE WAS A SILENCE ALL AROUND THE THRONE WHERE THE SAINTS HAVE OFTEN TROD, AS THE MARINE WAITED QUIETLY, FOR THE JUDGEMENT OF HIS GOD. "STEP FORWARD NOW, YOU MARINE, YOU'VE BOURNE YOUR BURDENS WELL, WALK PEACFULLY ON HEAVENS STREETS. YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL."

I ARRIVED AT 2D MP BN IN JULY 2003 I WAS AN OLDER MAN BUT A JUNIOR MARINE. I WAS 29 YRS OLD. SGT. FARRAR WAS THE FIRST MARINE I MET WHEN I ARRIVED. HE CARRIED HIMSELF THE WAY I ALWAYS PICTURED MARINES. OVER TIME WE BECAME FRIENDS AND HE WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL PERSON AND MARINE. TO THIS DAY I THINK OF HIM OFTEN. I BELIEVE THAT HE TOUCHED THE LIVES OF EVERY MARINE HE SERVED WITH AND OR TRAINED. SINCE I LEFT THE CORPS IN 2005 I HAVE STARTED A NON-PROFIT GROUP THAT HELPS DISABLED VETERANS IN THERE TIMES OF NEED. A PICTURE OF SGT. FARRAR SITS ON MY DESK IN MEMORY OF HIM. TO MELISSA. WHEN I MET ANDREW I HAD NO CLUE WHO THE DROPKICK MURPHEYS WERE UNTIL HE GAVE ME A CD OF THEM. HIM AND THAT CD GAVE ME THE MOTIVATION TO BE A BETTER MARINE AND A BETTER PERSON. SEMPER FI ANDREW.

As you can see we all still have you in our thoughts on a daily basis. It has been over 3 years now and we are still writing to you, talking to you and missing you. Even though I didnt know you for long you have made a tremendous impact on my life. I carry a picture of you and I with me in my wallet. I tell everyone at work about you. (I have even introduced some of them to the Murphys) My kids know all about you and I will continue to tell them stories of you. You are a great role modle and I am very pround to have served with you. I will never forget that day in Iraq when the convoy came back and we were brought together and seeing the look on the faces of the guys and then to hear what happened. That day will never be erased from my mind. I continue to pray for your family and Kids. I get a lump in my throat when I think about if it had happened to me and my kids going through what Tyler and Liam has and has to go through. To the Farrar Family;
In some ways, it hardly seems like three years have passed since the day Andy was taken. I have never forgotten everything Andy did for me and taught me. He was truly one of the finest Marines, and one of the best friends, I ever knew. Though we've never met we share one thing in common; January 28, 2005 was one of the saddest days of my life, too.
I have attended many funerals and memorials, but I've never seen anything that testified to a man's true impact as this; everyone cried when we sent him home. I was a pallbearer for Andy as we placed him on the plane for his final ride and I know that everyone truly grieved over the loss of one of the finest men any of us had ever met. I know that good men do not happen by accident; they are the product of good parents, so I thank you for sharing Andy with us.

To the family of Sgt. Farrar:

I never had the honor of meeting him, yet he has impacted my life in so many ways. I have heard countless stories from my husband about the incredible Marine that he was...the lessons he taught those that served with him have not been forgotten.

I teach 8th grade history, and I want you to know that all of my students heard about the person he was and the sacrifice he made on Memorial Day last year. In addition to talking about him in class, there was also a gold star with his name on it on our bulletin board honoring those who have served. As long as I teach, his legacy will live on.

May you all be comforted with the knowledge that Andy has touched many lives...even those of people he never met.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Happy Belated Easter Andrew

Short and sweet right now I am over here and I am sharing my Easter with you in lieu of being home with friends and family. But I like it because I know you're here watching over me. I even played Dropkick Murphy's "Fields of Anthenry and your song "Last Letter Home" as a token of Respect and Honor for you. To Andrew's Family; Everyday I make it back safe I know it's because God and Andrew (My Guardian Angel) are playing a part in it and I wanted you to know that I am grateful for his guidance.
Happy Easter to you all.

Andy, Happy Easter brother. Sitting here in Iraq thinking about you. Last week I was on a patrol, and rolled past the place where you were taken from us all. It was a wierd feeling, as I stared at the area, It sort of felt like you were there on patrol with me. There are times over here that I wonder how An would do this. I miss you my friend, and I know your with me over here. Greg
