ANN HUGHES Obituary
HUGHES, Ann Marie (Walsh) Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, on October 8, 2025, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the age of 87, after a brief illness. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Ann Marie lived a long and fulfilling life in Boston, Chestnut Hill and Duxbury, Massachusetts and most recently, in Fort Lauderdale. She spent the last six years enjoying the sunshine and sparkling waters of Florida, overlooking the Intercoastal with her daughter, Laura. Ann Marie was predeceased by her loving parents, Helen E. Walsh and Harold R. Walsh; her sister, Helen Walsh Conroy; her brother, Richard Walsh; and her beloved husband, Richard L. Hughes. Ann Marie's family meant the world to her. She was the proud mother of seven children and spouses: Kevin R. Hughes of Rockland, Massachusetts, Brian D. Hughes with Kristine Hughes (predeceased) of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, Dr. Mark S. Hughes with Dr. Delia N. Sang of Brookline, Massachusetts, Dr. Linda A. Hughes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Diane M. Converse with Glenn Converse of Woodstock, Connecticut, Laura A. Hughes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Scott L. Hughes with Lori Hughes of Pembroke, Massachusetts. She cherished her role as a grandmother to nine grandchildren when they were very young: Jennifer Hughes, Elizabeth Hughes, Catherine Hughes, Dr. Michael S. Hughes, Ian Converse, Adam Converse, Heather Converse, Harold Hughes and Reagan Hughes. A woman of great warmth and generosity to her family and friends, Ann Marie had an open-door policy years ago that made everyone feel welcome. Her home in Chestnut Hill was a haven for family, friends, and neighbors, all of whom were drawn in by her generosity and exceptional hospitality. Whether it was a freshly baked blueberry cake or date nut bread or a hot cup of tea, she always made sure no one left without feeling that they were welcome to return. The kitchen was a place where her love for family was always on display, through the smells of freshly baked treats and her treasured family recipes passed down through generations. Ann Marie spent many years nurturing both her flowers and friendships. An avid gardener and floral designer, she took great pride in her yearly springtime landscaping with container gardens, where vibrant blooms would greet all who visited. Rest in peace, Mom. You are loved in ways we cannot express in words. Your legacy will bloom and evolve in our hearts and minds. You will be forever missed but never forgotten. A private Service was held at Lehman, Reen and McNamara Funeral Home, in BOSTON, Massachusetts, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, in West Roxbury, Massachusetts.
