ARTHUR DALY Obituary

DALY, Arthur R. Retired Boston Police Officer, of Dedham, born September 9, 1922, passed away on February 1,2022 at the age of 99. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice "Betty" (Nyhan); devoted father of Michael Daly and his wife Sandra of Lunenburg, Eileen DeParolesa and her husband Frederick of Westwood, Terri Panico and her husband Richard of North Attleboro, Maureen Daly of New Ipswich, NH and Virginia (Ginger) Roselli and her husband Frank of North Attleboro. He was also a proud and fun-loving grandfather to his twelve grandchildren Michelle, Vivienne, Stephanie, Claire, Christopher, Daniel, Adam, Michael, Matthew, Jeffrey, Gregory and Samantha. Arthur was also great-grandfather to Paul, Joshua, Michael, Robert, John, Daniel, Molly, Brittany, Christopher, Nolan, Reese, Cameron, Ryan, Rocco and Remi. Arthur "Art" grew up in Dorchester, MA, and was the 4th of 10 children of Josephine and Francis Daly. His mom was a homemaker and his father worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Arthur served proudly as a Radio Man Second Class aboard the World War II Aircraft Carrier the USS Cowpens, which earned 12 battle stars. He would later write a diary of his experiences during the war which can be found at the World War II Museum in Washington, D.C. After the war Arthur joined the Boston Police Department, where he proudly served for 32.5 years. Art loved being a policeman. He was a champion of the underdog and took great satisfaction in helping people. In 1949, he met the love of his life, Betty (Nyhan). They were happily married for 60 years and raised their five children in Dedham. After retiring from the Boston Police Department, Arthur worked as head of security for the Westwood Lodge. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW. During his retirement Arthur enjoyed entertaining the residents of the local nursing homes with his flute, storytelling and singing of the "oldies". He did this well into his 90's. He served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary's parish in Dedham. He enjoyed dancing, playing the flute, harmonica, Irish drum, cooking, gardening, puzzles, reading and keeping physically fit. Arthur was a devoted family man. His family was crazy over him. A sweeter and more loving dad there could never be. Arthur was a very proud American devoted to God, family and country. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Mary's Church, 420 High St., Dedham, MA 02026 or the Knights of Columbus, 363 Washington St., Dedham, MA 02026. My sincere condolences to all of Arthur´s family. I knew him long ago in Roxbury when he was stationed at Station 10. My husband worked with him and knew him as "Red" Daly. You are blessed to have such a kind, loving gentleman and I hope your memories will help heal your loss.
