Brad Delp
ATKINSON, New Hampshire (AP) - Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55.

Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. Friday and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

"There was nothing disrupted in the house. He was a fairly healthy person from what we're able to ascertain," Police Chief Philip Consentino told WMUR-TV.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp sang vocals on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002.

He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade.

The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall.

On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

A call to the Swampscott, Massachusetts, home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

You are seldom completely out of my thoughts and are often foremost. Your music sometimes comforts but often sends me into deep deep depression because how and why you are gone eats me up. Buried in my heart and daily in my prayers the beautiful man I've never met but will love always xxx God bless and keep you Brad xxx

Music is the vehicle we use to express our inner feeling and emotions. Everyone has a song that makes them feel good, sad, or excited. The very first time that I heard brad sing was in 1975. It was boston's first album, and I will never, ever, forget how Brad's voice just went right through to my very soul. His voice made me feel like I was high on life. It is now 40 years later, and that feeling i get when I hear him sing is still the same. There have only been a handful of musicians who have ever made me feel the same way that Brad Delp can,and I put him on the top pedestal. Although I have never met Brad in person, I feel as though I know him. Thank you for a life time of joyess feelings and expression Brad, I love you.

I suffer from depression and feel like a lonely soul. I can relate to Brad Delp in so many ways. I listened to Boston first in 1977 on advice of a friend. I loved the new sound and the lyrics that went right to the soul. when I found out what happened to Brad I understood. I have felt that pain and hearing him speak I could hear the need to be loved, accepted and to feel he had not failed. altho of course he was loved, accepted and a success the illness takes that from you. I wish you peace and it is my prayer you are singing with the angels and never lonely. my wish is this world would understand people like us. most of us are pushed further away into darkness when what we need is love.

Brad, My husband also committed suicide 6 years ago. The pain in losing a loved one in this way never goes away. If we as family could have known the suffering you were enduring, maybe we could have helped somehow in preventing it. Something we as family will never know. God bless you both ... you are truly missed.

I was 17 when I first saw Boston at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco. Like fans everywhere, I fell in love with their style of music and
distinct sound in 1976. Brad Delp's soaring vocals would send chills up my spine, and Tom Scholz original music creation was truly unique. I have listened to Boston's music for years. But in 2007 I was so busy starting a new business that I missed the news of Brad's passing. I only found out a month ago and have listened to Boston a little every day since to celebrate the greatness they achieved as musicians. I also listened to Brad's final interview, read all the articles, and was very saddened to hear that Brad's apparent conflict aversion may have affected him in such a way that caused his extreme depression, and ultimately his life. He sure seemed like a great person and one who would never intend to hurt anyone. I hope his music and his "nice guy" image will live on forever for all who knew him and loved his music. RIP Brad, and God Bless his kids, family and all others who were close to him.

Today for some reason I started listening to Boston on You Tube and watched Brad's interviews and reading about his life. Like everyone here I first heard Boston on 8 track back in the 70's. I always thought they were a great band but now I think they were amazing! The song A Man I will never be reminds me of a friend I lost in 1979 at the young age of 19. Brad's voice will live on forever! RIP Brad.

Thank you to the band for giving this to me.

Wow!!!! can't believe its been 3 yrs. since dear Brad left us. I was probably 3 or 4 when i first heard Boston's debut. To say I have been hooked on his voice ever since is an understatement. I had the pleasure of meeting him once backstage @ the MN state fair in about '03 and will never forget how I did not want to let go of his handshake. What a true honor to meet the nicest guy in rock & roll. Boston's music has pushed me through some of my toughest times in life. I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, band members, fans and everyone else out there who loved him as much as I did. There will TRULY never be another Brad Delp. REST IN PEACE, BROTHER!!!

For Brad...the lead singer for the band Boston.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

In just over a month, it will be the third anniversary of Brad's death. I never met him, but I still miss him. He's most famous for "More than a Feeling" but when I listen to Boston's album's, I marvel at so many of Brad's vocal performances. For instance, "Feelin' Satisfied" and "Party" contain so many fantastic, wailing-yet-controlled background and harmony parts. The end of "Used to Bad News" is breathtaking, especially when Brad goes into that breathtaking harmony vocal on the last iteration of the chorus.

Has anyone out there listened to an RTZ album lately?

THOUGH BRAD DELPS SAD PASSING HAPPENED A FEW YEARS BACK, I FIND MYSELF HERE TODAY, WANTING TO PAY MY RESPECTS TO HIM AND HIS FAMILY AND ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVED HIM. IF YOU GREW UP IN THE 1970S', THE BAND "BOSTON" WAS A MUSICAL PART OF YOUR LIFE. FOR ME, THE "BOSTON" BAND REPRESENTS THE LOVE I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FOR NORTH READING HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 1979. NO OTHER MUSICAL GROUP EVER DEFINED OUR HIGH SCHOOL CLASS AND OUR PARTYING SPIRIT THE WAY BOSTON DID. THE BEAUTIFUL WORDS, THE FUN AND FAST RYTHYMS AND THEN THE BEAUTIFUL EMOTIONS THAT CAME OUT IN "BOSTON" THIRD STAGE ALBUM, LEFT A LEGACY FOR ALL OF US IN ALL THE YEARS THAT FOLLOWED OUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY BRAD DELP ENDED HIS LIFE, BUT THAT'S JUST IT, IT WAS HIS LIFE AND ONLY YOU REALLY KNOW AND EXPERIENCE YOUR OWN HEART. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THE BAND "BOSTON" AND THE GIFTS THEY GAVE ALL OF US. ALL OF US HAD TO LEAVE BEHIND FRIENDS AND SPECIAL LOVES WHEN WE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. BRAD DELP AND THE "BOSTON" BAND SOMETIMES HOLD THE MUSICAL KEY TO UNLOCK SOME OF MY DEEPEST FEELINGS AND MEMORIES FROM OUR YEARS AT NORTH READING HIGH SCHOOL. OUR LOVE AND DEEPEST RESPECTS TO BRAD DELP AND "BOSTON" FAMILY AND FRIENDS, OF THE LOSS OF THIS WONDERFUL, GIVING MAN. GOD SPEED. SIGNED, BILLY RALPH WEEDEN.

THIS COMMENT IS IN LOVING MEMORY OF BRAD DELP AND THE LOVE I WILL ALWAYS HAVE FOR NORTH READING HIGH SCHOOL, CLASS OF 1979. NO MUSICAL GROUP EVER DEFINED THE PARTYING SPIRIT OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL CLASS LIKE "BOSTON" DID, BACK IN THE 1970S' AND BEYOND THAT..... ALL THE MEMORIES I HAVE OF THOSE YEARS SO LONG AGO, ARE ALWAYS FILLED WITH BACKGROUND MUSIC, THE BEAUTIFUL AND FUN SOUNDS OF BRAD DELP AND THE MEMBERS OF "BOSTON" BRAD BUDDY, FOR SOME ODD REASON YOU HAVE BEEN ON MY MIND LATELY, MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE OUR 1979 HIGH SCHOOL CLASS HAD ITS' 30TH REUNION THIS YEAR, BUT ALOT OF THOSE OLD FEELINGS FOR ME ARE STARTING TO RESURFACE. BRAD, REST WELL. WE NEVER KNEW EACH OTHER, OF COURSE, BUT SO MANY FANS HAVE ALWAYS FELT SO CLOSE TO YOU AND ALL OF US ARE LEFT SAD WITH YOUR PASSING. IT NOW HAS BEEN A COUPLE OF YEARS, AND YET HERE I AM WANTING TO PAY MY RESPECTS. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE "BOSTON", THEY ARE THE MUSICAL KEY THAT UNLOCKS SOME OF MY MOST WONDERFUL MEMORIES. TO BRAD DELP AND THE GROUP MEMBERS OF "BOSTON", THANK YOU FOR THE GIFTS YOU GAVE ALL OF US ALL THOSE YEARS AGO..... YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A PART OF US IN THE MEMORIES OF OUR YOUNGER DAYS. I LOVE YOU AND THE SPIRIT AND LOVE OF NORTH READING HIGH SCHOOL , CLASS OF 1979, WILL LIVE ON FOREVER.....
