Burton Sternburg Obituary

The Honorable Burton S. Sternburg, 80, passed away Wednesday morning at his home in Chevy Chase, MD from lung cancer. A native of Boston, Judge Sternburg earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Georgetown University where he was also a member of the university boxing team. Specializing in labor law, Judge Sternburg earned a lifetime federal appointment as an Administrative Law Judge with the Labor Department in 1973. In 1979, he was selected to be in the first group of judges for the Federal Labor Relations Authority, which was established that year by President Jimmy Carter. He retired from the bench in 1994. Judge Sternburg is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mildred, three devoted sons, Jon (Kathryn), Charles (Louise) and Fred ((Lauren), four cherished grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Samuel and David, and a loving brother, Frederick (Dorothy). Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 11am at Washington Hebrew Congregation 3935 Macomb St., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20016. Internment, Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park, in Clarksburg, MD, will immediately follow. Family will receive friends following interment at Somerset House, building #1, Chevy Chase, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judge Sternburg's memory be made to the JSSA Hospice, 6123 Montrose Road, Rockville, MD 20852. Arrangements entrusted to Edward Sagel Funeral Direction, Inc., 301-217-9400.

My heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Sternburg, Fred, Lauren and all of the Sternburg family. In the midst of your grief, I hope that the wonderful life of your loving husband, father and grandfather will offer some measure of peace.
