CHARLES BUCKLIN Obituary

BUCKLIN, Charles Stanley "Stan" Died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on February 2nd, 2021, in Jamaica Plain, MA at the age of 68.

Stan was born on June 26th, 1952 in Boston, MA to Charles Melville and Marion Cooper Bucklin. Stan graduated from Alfred University in 1975 with a Bachelor's Degree in History.

After moving to Boston in 1976, Stan began working in the camera industry and ultimately as an Account Manager covering New England for Leica Cameras for over thirty years. He and his wife Lynne have also been sole importers of Cavedoni Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Italy covering distribution in North America since 2001. Stan was accomplished and passionate about many sports. Sailing in the Figawi race to Nantucket, squash and rowing at the Union Boat Club in Boston and golfing at The Country Club in Brookline were his favorite pastimes. He was a talented photographer, avid reader, motorcycle enthusiast and loved to travel both nationally and internationally.

Stan was a much-loved individual, loved by countless people, from all over the world. Stan was a very engaging and interesting man and always a true gentleman. He was a Founding Member of the "Boston Beverage Club" in the 1980s. Its flag flew at events like The Head of The Charles Race, Harvard vs Yale games in Cambridge, at his country home in New London, NH or city home in Jamaica Plain, MA. All people were welcome in his home, "Come in and sit, we will share a drink and our memories and our stories."

Stan was an active and dedicated member of The Country Club in Brookline, MA, the Union Boat Club in Boston, MA, The Newport Reading Room in Newport, RI and the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club in Sunapee, NH. Stan remained very close to all of his friends and classmates, attending many reunions at his alma maters, Alfred University and the New Hampton School in New Hampton, NH.

Stan was the beloved husband of Lynne Kelley Bucklin. He also leaves behind his daughters Lydia and Hannah Bucklin, his stepsons John Ivey and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Ivey, USN, stepmother Martha Harris and her husband Dave, siblings Jennifer Bucklin Roy of Brownsville, VT and Carrie Bucklin of New London, NH.

A reception will be held later this summer to Celebrate Stan's Life. In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank in Stan's memory.

Shortly before my dad´s sudden passing, he expressed interest in getting more involved with the Boston Food Bank. While he´s sadly not here anymore, each year I donate for his birthday in his honor. This cause was close to him and so now it´s close to me . Love you dad.

I was so sad to learn of Stan's unexpected passing. I didn't get to know Stan all that well during his brief years at New London Junior High but reconnected through FB. I remarked to my husband multiple times, that I really hoped to bump into Stan around town. I feel like I got to know Stan a bit more through his FB posts. It was easy to sense Stan's humor, clever intellect and strong love for you, Lynn, your family and Stan's many friends. I think in most of Stan's photo posts he had his arm around whomever he was with. My deepest sympathy for your sad loss.

So sad to hear of Stan's unexpected passing. Our deepest sympathy to Lynne, Lydia and Hannah. We especially remember Stan's generous hospitality and warmth in Brookline and New Hampshire and his obvious devotion to his daughters. We had some unforgettable nights with Stan at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in Soho, London and other great memories.

I met Stan at New Hampton in 1968. Our fiftieth class reunion is in June and, covid permitting, I was hoping to visit with him then.
Stan was affable and an eloquent raconteur with a quick wit. I know he is sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. My deepest condolences to Lynne and the entire Bucklin family.

As I grew up attached to Hannah's side, I got to see Stan and experience his comforting presence through many stages of my life. Some of my first memories include the Bucklin crew and I will cherish those forever. Stan was always a gentle giant to me and I will hold my memories of the times I got to share with him in Jamacia Plain and in New Hampshire close to my heart. I cannot properly express my sorrow for Hannah and Lydia but my heart is with them. Rest in Peace Stan and thank you for everything.

Uncle Stan was the best, most warm-hearted, caring and compassionate person. I feel so lucky that he was such a constant presence in my life and I will forever cherish the memories I have with him. I started to write some of these down and have already used five pages of notepaper, so clearly there are too many good times to count! I, along with anyone who ever knew him, loved him so much and will miss him incredibly. His presence was and still is larger than life.

Lydia and Hannah, the distance between London and New London has never felt so great. I so wish I could be there with you. I found this picture the other day from that time we went to the Seaport boat show with our dads. It made me smile.

To Lynne, Lydia, Hannah and all the rest of the Bucklin family, I am so incredibly sorry for so deep a loss. I am thinking of you and sending all my love.

Love,
Twinkie

My deepest sympathy Lynne to you and your family. I had the pleasure of meeting you a few times when you came with Stan at the office of Leica Camera . Stan was such a gentleman such a nice person. When ever he came to the office he would bring donuts and he would come to me at the reception desk and he would say to me Betty I want you to have the first one .I worked with Stan for many many years at Leica camera. May God rest his soul .

My deepest condolences to the Bucklin family for your sudden loss. I grew up with Stan in Chestnut Hill, he lived two houses away and our parents knew each other when they were in their 20's and 30's and 40's. Stan was a gentleman and an interesting person. We grew up in seperate summer places, but knew each other while living on Beacon Hill in the 70's and 80's. I moved to Fl in the early 90's and lost touch with my Boston associates. We were born in the same year and I am sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great guy and always interested in helping anyone he could. He will be missed as he always had a witty way at looking at things. Sorry for your loss.

Dear Lynne, Lydia, Hannah & Family,
Julie and I are devastated by Stan's passing. There is a reason why Stan had so many friends, it is because everyone who met him, recognized the kind and generous old soul that he was. We will miss him greatly, and our sympathies are with you at this sad time.

Growing up with Hannah and Lydia, I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Stan for nearly 25 years. Words cannot explain how shocked and saddened I am by the loss of him. That being said, I’m lucky to have known him for so long and have such fond memories of him. I’ll especially cherish when he recently took Hannah and I to dinner while he visited Los Angeles just last year. He reminisced about Woodstock and prep-school throughout dinner. Such a character, class-act and an incredible father. He will be so so missed, but his memory will be eternal. Rest in Pease, Stan.

With Love,
Bianca

Such a sad time knowing Stan is gone. He was such a huge part of my life starting in my early teens. So many wild and crazy times we shared. Funny stories that probably aren't appropriate for here. Stan was loved by all he touched and the world was a better place with him here.
My heart goes out to Lynne, Lydia,, Hannah, John, Christopher and all the Bucklin family.
