Chester D'Autremont Obituary

Terry was born in Duluth, Minnesota on August 10, 1920; moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1929; came to Harvard in 1937. After graduating from Harvard University in 1941, and Harvard Medical School in 1944, Terry trained in neurology & child psychiatry. He worked at Boston Children's Hospital in order to treat a diverse population. He loved children, fly fishing, Ogden Nash, tennis, classical music, peonies and dessert. He was involved in his church; gave generously of time and treasure to Harvard Medical School; worked tirelessly for the Decordova Musuem; and consulted for many years with the Walker Home to improve residential treatment for mentally ill children. Terry is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Way d'Autremont; by their children Cicely, Chester C. Jr. and (Susan,) Hugh, Sloan (Michael Fadlovich) and Ruth (Charlie Conroy); beloved grandchildren Jordan, Lindsay (Chris,) Madeleine, Claire, Nicholas, Peter, Sirkka (Chris,) Annika (Jerrod); great granddaughters Ayla, Elinor and Nissa; his sister Cicely d'Autremont Angleton; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. What can I say? The d'Autremonts were a mainstay of my sister's and my early years. Ogden Nash, the pony Bing, cookies, lots of kids, and a door that never shut. Dr. "D" taught me to love Odgen Nash and even to memorize the poems so that Cicely and I could recite at will. His willingness to listen and Ruth's willingness to welcome were unsurpassed. And now Terry has stepped to the side, letting us continue without him. So sad. He is on someone else's dance card now and we will miss him and his humor,
compassion, and knowledge.
Bon voyage.
