Christopher BARROW Obituary

BARROW, Christopher T. "Kit" Of Vero Beach, FL and Little Compton, RI - formerly of Wellesley, MA - passed away, on Sunday, May 25, leaving behind a long legacy of generosity, sharp intellect and deep devotion to family, community and environmental conservation. He was born in Lexington, KY and raised in Lexington and Milwaukee, WI. Prior to Vero Beach, Kit spent over six decades in the Boston area.

Kit attended Lawrenceville School (Class of 1959), Westminster School in London (where he was an usher for Princess Margaret's wedding to Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960), and graduated from Harvard College in 1964, where he was a proud member of the Fox Club, golf and rugby teams. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1967 and later obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, where he was one of the first 1,000 people to receive it.

Kit spent his professional life as an investment counselor. He was the co-founder of Seaward Management in 1988, where he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his thoughtful insight and unwavering integrity. He was particularly proud when the firm was profiled in Forbes Magazine in 2011 for having a refreshingly independent approach to portfolio management. Prior to co-founding Seaward, he was President of Moseley Capital Management from 1979 to 1988. He started his investment career at Scudder, Stevens & Clark in 1967, where he met his future bride, Susan Cameron (Barrow).

Throughout his life, Kit found joy and fellowship in the many clubs where he always ended up volunteering in stewardship rolls. His longest affiliation was with The Country Club in Brookline, MA, where he was an active member for over 58 years. There he took part in the annual golf match between The Country Club and the Royal Montreal Country Club for a record 50 years, as well as being part of the leadership team for the 1988 US Open and 1999 Ryder Cup. Other clubs he was deeply committed to include the Sakonnet Golf Club and the Sakonnet Point Club in Rhode Island, Riomar Country Club in Florida, and The U.S. Senior Golf Association.

An avid fly-fisherman and outdoorsman, Kit was a longtime member of the Black Brook Salmon Club in Canada, where he spent many weeks with family and friends. He was a tireless supporter of conservation efforts through the Atlantic Salmon Federation, the Miramichi Salmon Association, the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, and the Indian River Land Trust, to name a few. In 2021, he was the recipient of the Lee Wulff Award, the top honor given by the Atlantic Salmon Federation in recognition of a lifetime commitment to wild Atlantic salmon conservation.

Above all, Kit was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Susan ("Sue") Cameron Barrow; and daughters: Catharine ("Katie") Barrow McGauley, and her husband, Thomas A. McGauley; along with their sons, Patrick and Christopher ("Kit"), Annie W. Barrow and Susan ("Susie") T. Barrow. He was predeceased in 2024 by his beloved daughter, Marion Cameron ("Camie") Barrow and her (surviving) husband, David Huntress.

Kit will be remembered for his intellect, wit, quiet generosity, and his deep love for his family and friends. His presence will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Country Club in Brookline, MA, on June 22, at 1-3 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Kit Barrow to one of the following organizations: Indian River Land Trust: https://www.irlt.org/cfiles/join_donate.cfm, Grumeti Fund: https://africanccf.org/donate/tanzania/, Alford Lake Camp: https://www.alfordlakecamp.com/alcscholarshipfund

Sue & extended family:
Word has reached Nina and I that Chris departed for higher ground. I fully expected to hear from him about fishing for Atlantic Salmon and golf rounds at Clubs he loved, guided and participated at for so many years. Very sad to know that this will not be happening any more. The life he lead was distinguished and successful and I know his loss is felt by many. We and you are left with memories and we pray that they will sustain you and give you comfort.

Today, I learned of Kit's passing. I was lucky to have Kit as a Pilates client for several years. He was like an encyclopedia, and knew so much about so many topics. We especially enjoyed discussing the wild life in Florida. My condolences and blessings to the family.
