CRAIG BURLINGAME Obituary

BURLINGAME, Craig David Age 59, of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Cotuit, died on August 29, 2021 due to complications following surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Craig was born on October 22, 1961. He graduated Barnstable High School in 1980. It was while Craig was a student at Barnstable that he began his lifelong career as a public servant. It was apparent very early that Craig's skills in technology and management would carry him far in life.

He began working for the Town of Barnstable as an Information Systems Director from 1982-1992. During this time, he also was involved in many other government civic organizations. Town meeting member 1985-1988, Charter Committee Member 1988, Barnstable Housing Authority 1990-1999 (chairman 1992-1994), Barnstable Local Planning committee 1991, Cotuit-Santuit Historic District Study Committee 1993-1995.

In 1993, Craig took his talents to the City of Boston. He served as the Chief Information Officer for Massachusetts Office of Public Safety, and then the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. In 2002 through 2004, Craig was the CIO of the City of Boston. In June of 2004, he began serving as the CIO of the Massachusetts Trial Court in the Greater Boston Area. His final job, which he retired from in December 2020, was as the CIO for the Massachusetts Judiciary System. Throughout most of his professional career he relied on one trusted secretary, Margie Dillon, by his side. His Civic Service continued during this time, as well as he was the Director of Commonwealth Cooperative Bank from 2005-2014.

Craig was known for his intelligence, sense of humor and genuine caring for all he knew. He will be sorely missed by his many, many friends and colleagues through the world.

He is survived by his loving mother Ann Burlingame of Cotuit; sister Sheryl Burlingame (Dawn Rogers) of Harwich, sister Cindy Neves (Dan) of Cotuit; lifelong friend David Greenblatt of Pawtucket RI. He was predeceased by his father Lee Burlingame of Cotuit.

Funeral services were private due to Covid. A celebration of Craig's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Craig's name to the Joslin Diabetes Center at giving.joslin.org, or if you wish to honor his humor, to Wombat Organization, PO BOX 18, Flaxley, SA 5153. As newly minted selectwoman in 1980 I was instrumental in hiring Craig to begin our successful computer program for Barnstable. He was truly a boy wonder!

Craig and I worked together at the City of Boston. He was a great guy and he had a food sense of humor. One of the things that he did was to introduce us to "Fat Tuesday" like they do in New Orleans the day before Lent. He would buy a large cake and share it with everyone. Craig, we will miss you.
God Bless. Dennis DiMarzio

Please accept our deepest sympathies. It was a pleasure to work with Craig on many Trial Court initiatives.

He cared greatly about the people he worked with and the effect the projects would have on them. He touched many lives through his public service and they are each the better for it.

You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Michael Sullivan
And the members of the
Superior Court Clerks´ Assoc.
