I am so sorry for your loss, I just read about it.. Mr. Lavelle was my French teacher and used to call me "mon petite chu" about 5 years after I graduated, I married and built a house on Plain Drive, was out on my back deck when all of a sudden I hear someone yelling "Mon Petite Chu"!! little did I know he was Superintendent Murray's brother in law, my next door neighbor!! brought back great memories then, and now.. A wonderful teacher, a kind, gentle man. God Bless you Mr. Lavelle. Rest in Peace.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. LaVelle's passing. I have very fond memories of my Latin classes with him, and the 2 wonderful trips to Italy. May he rest in peace.

I was so sad to hear this news. Mr. Lavelle was one of my all-time favorite teachers. I still laugh when I remember the expressions that he used in Latin class!! And our trip to Italy is something I will never forget. Ave atque vale, Mr. Lavelle.

"Quelle heure est-il?" That was my introduction to Mr. LaVelle on the first day of French 2. "Quelle heure est-il?" He barked at every student in the front row, then the 2nd, drawing blank stares from all. He reached me at the end of the third row & I looked at my watch...prompting hime to shout "THANK YOU MR. BLOOM! Through two classes today you are the first one to at least look at a clock or a watch!" Granted, I screwed up the reply, but his appreciation for my reaction made me want never to let him down. He was a demanding teacher, but all he ever demanded was our best efforts and I know he got mine. He was what a teacher should be.
A notre prochaine recontre...

Thank you for making the world a better place. Especially mine. Not a week goes by that I don't have a fond memory of you. And you were my teacher over 2 decades ago. You will always have a special place in my heart, and I will always have a virtual candle lit for you. Thank you for everything. You will never know the impact you had on my life.

A wonderful Latin teacher, an incredible teacher (whose one-liners I use to this day, >25 yrs later), and a smart, insightful, hilarious human being. I will always remember our Latin class trip to Italy with the Mrs. and Dale Jr in April, 1989. Rest well, old log.
