DANIEL MCELANEY Obituary

McELANEY, Daniel W. Businessman and Triple Eagle Daniel William McElaney Jr. died on Thursday, Dec. 22, in Marco Island, FL. He was 90. Born in Boston, Dan resided in Brookline, MA, Quincy, MA, and Cheltenham, PA, where he was a Democratic party committeeman and a founding member of the Pennsylvania Fair Housing Commission. He was the son of Daniel William McElaney Sr. and Mildred Evelyn (nee McCarthy) of Milton, MA, where he grew up. Dan was a Triple Eagle. He graduated from Boston College High School and Boston College with a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in economics. He served in the United States Navy as an intelligence offer during the Korean War, stationed in London, and resigned from the Navy Reserve as a Lt. Commander. Dan worked for pharmaceutical and medical companies in Philadelphia and Boston following his military service. He served as VP of Marketing, then President and CEO of Dale Medical Products, now of Franklin, MA, between 1977 and 2000, when he retired. Dan was a long-time member of the Quincy Tennis Club, and the Marco Island Yacht Club. He was a fixture at Boston College basketball games, and attended every Big East basketball tournament that BC played in. It is rumored, and as yet disproven, that Dan attended more high school and college basketball games than anyone. Prone to hyperbole, Dan regularly reported that he had just seen "the greatest" game or "best player" ever. Dan is survived by his beloved wife, Gillian Hamer of Marco Island, FL; four children, Lisa McElaney of Newton, MA, and her husband, Abelardo Morell, Kevin McElaney of Milton, MA, and his wife, Nancy Kirk, Jack McElaney of Turners Falls, MA, and Anne McElaney of Eden, UT, and her husband, Phil Rogers; and five grandchildren, Daniel Brady Morell, Laura Morell, Joanna McElaney, Kyle McElaney and Samantha McElaney; and many nieces and nephews around the country. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Bette) McDermott McElaney; his brother, Gerard McElaney; his sister, Paula Hamilton; and his son, Robert A. McElaney. Details on a memorial service are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Dan be remembered with donations to the McElaney fund at Nativity Preparatory School in Boston, 39 Lamartine St., Boston, MA 02130.

So very sad to hear the news of Dan's passing. He was an exceptional man that I was honored to know having worked at Dale Medical. Rest in peace as you talk with Rob about sports

Gillian, so sorry to hear of Dans passing. He was a gentleman with a great sense of humor and dry wit. I only wish I had met him sooner. I hope you can take solace in knowing how much he loved you and the memories that you shared with him.
I will certainly keep him in my prayers and may God Bless you.
