David CRONIN Obituary

CRONIN, David Passed away peacefully in his home, at the age of 91, surrounded by his children and his beloved wife, Marge. He was the cherished son of David and Ann Cronin from Ireland.

David spent his early years living in Maine and Somerville. He graduated from Malden Catholic in the 1950s, where he cultivated the values and principles that guided him throughout his life.

David found his professional calling working for New England Telephone Company and AT&T.

For 65 years, he shared his life with his wife, Margaret Cronin. Their marriage was a testament to the power of devotion and the beauty of lifelong companionship. They purchased a home in West Medford, where they raised six children. David's devotion to his children's education and development knew no bounds. His wisdom and guidance have shaped their lives profoundly.

David's love for life knew no age limits. He enjoyed pickup basketball games at Playstead Park, and skating and playing hockey on Brooke's Pond. He pursued skiing into his late seventies, and riding his bike into his mid eighties.

David discovered a haven of tranquility and joy when he purchased a home on the Cape. This retreat by the sea became a canvas for creating lasting memories with family and friends as they enjoyed swimming in the ocean, sailing on the beautiful waters of Cape Cod, and watching countless sunsets on warm summer evenings.

David's spirit was steeped in a commitment to lifelong learning. He was an avid reader for most of his life, loved listening to talk radio, and he was a huge fan of PBS. He had a special fondness for animals, especially dogs, and would light up in their presence. In his retirement years, David started most days working on the daily crossword puzzle. He had a vast wealth of knowledge and an uncanny ability to decipher the toughest clues with a sense of ease and humility.

David's Irish heritage was a source of great pride. He loved listening to Irish music, singing and dancing to his favorite songs. He shared his love of music by learning how to play a variety of instruments, including the accordion, harmonica, and guitar. A true maestro, he would create makeshift bands with his grandchildren every 4th of July, bringing joy and laughter to all.

David's legacy lives on through his 6 children, 12 grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched. As we say our farewells, let us celebrate the vibrant life he led and find comfort in the knowledge that his love, kindness, dry wit, and boundless curiosity will continue to inspire us.

A Memorial Service to honor David's life will be held on September 27, 2023 at 10:00am at the Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main Street (Route 28), West Harwich, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in David's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (https://act.alz.org/).

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dave and Cronin Family. Our father Jim (Jerry)MacDonald from Walpole worked at the phone company with Dave. He past away in 1969. Dave was so great to our family, he offered their cottage to our family during on weekdays, and your family would have the cottage on the weekends. I think it was the distraction my mother and our family needed. Every time I go over the bridge I think of Dave and his family, and think what a great man he is. Our family says thank you and we love you for all you did.

God bless David Cronin and his Cronin family. My grandfather John Michael Cronin was born and raised in Maine and raised his family in West Medford. I spent summers my first 26 years in West Harwich and share all of David's stated interests and activities.
