David was my dear friend for 20 years. His loss is profound. David had a talent for helping people help themselves. He was good listener with a great sense of humor. He was always there to lift my spirits and make me feel special. I will miss him forever.

Our family met Dave when he joined the Congregational Church in Exeter, NH as a new young pastor in the 1960s. He would spend holidays with both Merrill families in Exeter as he was far from home, and in the summer would come to the lake with us. There was always laughter when Dave was around, even on otherwise somber occasions. He baptized, married, and buried more than a dozen of us, so his place in our family runs deep. We will miss him!

I met Dave several times over the past 15 years and truly enjoyed his friendship and sense of humor and wit. He will be missed for all of the good that he brought into the world
