DAVID HOWIE Obituary

HOWIE, David N. Age 83, of Braintree, MA, passed peacefully on February, 4th, 2021 with his family at his side. Born to the late Russell and W. Gertrude (MacDonald) Howie, he was the beloved husband to Gail F. (Hill) Howie, father of Daryl M. Price, David C. Howie, Michelle L. Campbell and a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren. He was also loved dearly by his late aunts, Eleanor and Louise MacDonald. Dave was a lifelong resident of Braintree graduating Braintree High School in 1955. He worked in the composing room at the Christian Science Monitor newspaper for 26 years starting out as printer apprentice, followed by 22 years at the Boston Gas Company. He was also enlisted in the National Guard for 7 years. Dave was a gifted and talented lifelong skier, travelling to many locations across the country and Europe over the span of 70 years. Organizing a number of ski clubs in New Hampshire in the late 1950's and early 1960's, he spent many years hiking and skiing Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington. Dave was an avid photographer, having a number of his skiing photographs published by the Associated Press. He also loved to hike, fish, attend Scottish Highland Games festivals and spend as much time as he could with his family. Dave always had a smile on his face and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had many friends and will be sorely missed by both friends and family. In light of current events, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, donations in David's memory can be made to The Parkinson's Foundation, https://www.parkinson.org/ways-to-give. For guestbook, see www.alfreddthomas.com. gail, and family, sorry to hear of david's passing. he was a very decent and fun loving guy, with a quiet laugh & smile... enjoyed fun times at wildcat mt. in Jackson, N.H., in the rickety old lodge with the tiny overnight cabins in the mid 60s... pleasant memories of the way we were, back then, dwell on the love & fond memories.
