DAVID MACKAY Obituary

MacKAY, David R. 72, Of Scituate and Naples, FL passed away peacefully at home on the morning of December 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. With grace and courage, he battled melanoma for nearly five years. He was the beloved husband of Mary Lee (McHale) MacKay, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Devoted father of Suzanne MacKay, MD of Scituate, Scott MacKay and his wife Carolynn of Milton, and Sarah Nunnery and her husband Robert of Hanover. Cherished Grampa of William, Elizabeth and Katherine Nunnery, Lia Martinez and Cora, Salvatore and Josephine MacKay. Son of the late Robert and the late Cora (Sewall) MacKay of Braintree and Hingham. Also survived by his siblings Jean MacKay of Hingham and Paul MacKay and his wife Jan of Scituate and their family. A graduate of Braintree High School, Northeastern University, and Suffolk Law School. David was deeply committed to his family-run electrical contracting business, Edward G. Sawyer Company, where he was the President, CEO, and Chairman for 40 years. Active in the electrical contracting industry for 50 years, David was a dedicated member of the Boston Chapter of the National Electrical Contracting Association (NECA). He was also active in the industry nationally, serving on NECA's Executive Committee and the ELECTRI International Board of Trustees. He was honored for his contributions to the industry with induction into the Academy of Electrical Contracting (2005), NECA's Richard Addio Distinguished Service Award (2012) and the Wendt Award for Exemplary Leadership and Service (2015). Generous with his time and talents, David was involved in many community organizations throughout his life. He served on the Town of Scituate Conservation Commission and Planning Board, as well as the Board of the Old Colony Council of the Boy Scouts. He was President of the Braintree Rotary Club, and Co-Chair of the St. Mary's Parish Building Committee, among others. Most importantly, David's life was marked by his love of family. He shared all of life's adventures with his wife and best friend, Mary Lee. They enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family. He was a constant presence and source of inspiration for his three children. He was endlessly delighted by his seven grandchildren. David enjoyed the company of his many friends, with whom he shared his passion for golf and skiing, his love of contemporary jazz, and his appreciation of single malt scotch and a good cigar. A man of strength, integrity, temperance and humor, David will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have shared time with him. Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Road, SCITUATE on Monday January 4th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent Street, Scituate at 10 AM.
