DAVID WATTS Obituary

WATTS, David B. Of Chatham, formerly of Westwood, MA and St. Croix, passed away on October 28, 2021. David was the beloved son of the late G. Gordon and Verna (Grutchfield) Watts, as well as the devoted husband of the late Beverly (Lawson) Watts.

David grew up in Sharon, MA. He was introduced at a young age to the world of music by his parents, and embraced it throughout his life. He became an accomplished piano player, a gift that followed him much of his life. In high school, David put his talent to use playing in a small neighborhood band called the "Rhythm Rascals." After graduating Sharon High School, David continued his studies at Harvard University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. David then went on to earn a Master's in Business at Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business. Later in life David proudly created an endowment at Harvard University in the form of a professorship in appreciation for his father's passion for the musical arts.

While at Harvard, David met and fell in love with his amazing wife, Beverly, while working summers on Nantucket. They were married and shared 62 years together. In 1956, after David completed his higher education, he began a lifelong career in asset management for Scudder, Stevens and Clark, Inc. in Boston, MA. They raised a loving family of three boys in Westwood, MA and enjoyed vacationing in St. Croix and Chatham, MA.

After his career at Scudder, Stevens and Clark, David was able to retire to his homes in St. Croix and Chatham. In his retirement years, David picked up the game of golf, playing with his sons and belonging to Carambola Golf & Country Club in St. Croix and Eastward Ho! in Chatham. David was also a member of Chatham Beach & Tennis club and enjoyed playing tennis well into his 70's. Dave and Bev enjoyed sharing good wine and delicious meals with friends at the Ha'Penny Bay Beach Club in St Croix.

David will be truly missed by his three sons and their families: Bradley G. Watts (Regina Watts) of Wellesley, MA, Peter W. Watts (Kathy Watts) of Chatham and Geoffrey D. Watts (Amy Moran) of Wellesley, MA; as well as his six grandchildren, Matthew, William, Elizabeth, Daniel, Ashley and Angela. David will be remembered for his outgoing, friendly and social manner. Services will be held at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 625 Main Street, Chatham, Saturday, November 6th at 12:00 pm. Donations in David's memory may be made to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 310, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. For online condolence messages, please visit www.nickersonfunerals.com

We enjoyed our friendship with David at Eastward Ho, The Harvard Club, and during our visit with him and Bev at St. Croix. We will miss him.

To Dave's Family- I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Dave for many years at Scudder- for a time managing some of the insurance company portfolios in his group so I got to spend some time with him in the car going to client meetings. He was a wonderful, thoughtful person and a valued colleague. I met your Mom a number of times and always enjoyed her too. In recent years, I saw Dave dining at Eastward Ho- probably with some of you- and as always he was very gracious. My deepest sympathy. Peg Hadzima
