Deborah Wood Obituary

47, of Ladyslipper Lane, passed away on Friday, August 26th at Maine Medical Center from the effects of a cardiac arrest three days earlier. As she wished, her organs have been donated to the New England Organ Bank. Born in Boston and raised in Duxbury, Massachusetts, Debbie was the daughter of Doug and Sue Gray of Duxbury and Boca Grande, Florida. She married W. Godfrey Wood in 1982 and lived in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts before moving to Falmouth in 1992. Debbie was the mother of Sidney Gray Wood, 20, and Amanda Burr Wood, 18, both starting freshman years in college, and a stepdaughter, Whitney Wood Bylin of Palm Beach, Florida. A graduate of Noble and Greenough School and of Connecticut College, Debbie was an active and accomplished skier, hiker, cyclist, and runner. Within just over a year she had recently summited all 48 of New Hampshires 4000 foot mountains, and was preparing to climb Mt. Katahdin. She recently completed the 180 mile 3 day bicycle Trek across Maine, a charitable fundraiser. Debbie worked for State Street Bank in Boston, the Church of the Redeemer in Chestnut Hill, the Portland Pirates Hockey Club, and the Falmouth School System. An active community volunteer, Debbie was devoted to the young, and served as a board member of Falmouth Soccer Boosters, coached the first girls youth soccer team in Falmouth, supported the Kids Who Care program, and had been assistant coach of the Falmouth Ski Teams. In addition to her parents, husband, children, step-daughter and countless devoted friends, Debbie is survived by her sister Dana Gray Moodey of Seattle, Washington, nieces Lily and Hope Moodey, and nephew Jack Moodey, as well as her step-grandchildren Alexander Wood Bylin and John Pillsbury Bylin of Palm Beach, Florida. A Memorial Service celebrating Debbie's life will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 30th at Falmouth Congregational Church, 267 Falmouth Road, Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, Debbie's family encourages contributions in her memory to the Falmouth Education Foundation, c/o Toni Butterfield, 84 Falmouth Road, Falmouth, Maine 04105.

Dear Godfrey, Amanda and Sidney,

My heart goes out to you. I will remember Deb as one of the most wonderful and loving women I've ever known. She gave so much to the community and especially to the young people of Falmouth. My daughter, Whitney, and I will keep her in our hearts forever. Please know that we are near if you need anything at all.

All our love,

Dear Wood Family,

"Where ever a beautiful soul has been lies a trail of beautiful memories..." Debbie certainly left a lovely trail. When we were leaving Falmouth for a corporate move to NJ she quickly wrote Dana's address down, phone number and email so we would have a connection. As it turned out, our daughter, Shannon, and Debbie's niece Lily became good friends. The Moodey family made our NJ transition easier - a connection to home. I'll never forget that bleak December day Debbie went out of her way to make sure my then third grader would have a connection in NJ. Despite all the chaos of PM school as everyone prepared for December break, she took the time for an act of kindness and we were made richer by it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

A Mom, a friend and a coach...Debbie was all of that and more to us. As she allowed Ed the chance to coach Amanada. And us a chance to get to know Godfrey and Sid. Thank-you Debbie. You will be missed.

Debbie reached out and touched practically an entire generation of Falmouth youth. She never hesitated to 'step up to the plate' to do whatever needed to be done.... time or effort... whatever. She always stepped in with grace, beauty and good humor. A good woman who will be sadly and sorely missed by all she touched. Thank you, Godfrey, Amanda and Sidney for sharing her so generously with our entire community.

Debby, we will always love you! You brought happiness to everything you touched. You took the time to get to know something special about everyone you met and made that person feel good about themselves.

You were always the first person to chip in to help, to go the extra mile for a friend. You have taught us many lessons about kindness, love and life. You will alway be in my heart. I will feel your breeze wosh by me as you pass me on each ski run I take. I love you, Dru
