I am deeply sorry for your loss, as a young Trooper, Dessi treated me with respect and tought me not to take the job too seriously. Now after 26 years the laughter that he and his brother Billy brought to me in my earlier years remains with me. I often say to other Troopers that it is not the job, but the people that you meet that give your life and carreer meaning. Dessi was defenetly one of the good ones. Smooth Sailing brother. I am sorry for your loss. I met Desi at Gold's Gym years ago. We used to chat during our daily workouts. He became a great friend to me. We could share our struggles or just have a good laugh. I will always remember him and be thankful for his friendship.
Sincerely,
Ann Keenan

To Stephanie and the Howe family, Walter and I are so sorry to learn of Desi's passing. We had so many fun times at the ODP - he packed so much into the time that he had with us - I know he's in heaven with that big smile on his face - driving everyone crazy. I hope that this sad time passes quickly and that good memories remain.

A Reminiscence by Anne Brontë
YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.
May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.
Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;
To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Dear The Howe Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. As kids, my brother and I always looked forward to our summers on the Cape with Chris and Willie. Desi was a huge part of the fun we had - I guess you could say he was a big kid at heart. Whether it was taking us to free movies, hanging out at the beach, riding in "Betsy" (Grandma Russo's old Dodge Dart), or just having a cookout on the porch...it was always fun because you never knew what Desi was going to do next. Desi will be missed, but we will always remember him for the fond and often hysterical memories that he brought to our lives.
Our prayers and deepest condolences are with you during this difficult time.

Sorry for your loss, Desi was a good man, lots of Laughs and Good times. I have met some great MSP men from him which my family has the honor for close friends today. Former Speaker of the House Jack Davoren , myself and Desi had some great rides and chats. You made me have great respect for the MSP men. The loss of trooper is great. Like Larry says thinking of him makes you laugh and smile
God Bless Desi

MSP 1982-present. I worked with Desi in the early-mid 90's. One thing is for sure, there never was a dull moment w/ him around. You never new what to expect and had to expect the unexpected. He was quite the guy. He will surely be missed. Just writing this, I am thinking of some of the memories, and they bring a smile to my face. RIP Sarge.

I left an audio message as well but thought that I'd leave this note too.
Desie will live as long as I do. I can never forget him because I have never met anyone else like him.
Desie involved himself in other people's lives and enjoyed nothing more than helping others with problems. He gave to those in need such as his homeless friend at Carson Beach. He sensed your mood and listened as a good friend would.
There was more than a bit of the devil in Desie and he delighted in letting me know when I was wrong.
I am grateful and proud of his friendship. He came into my life at a time when I needed a friend.
Desie became part of my family and that gave me and my family a great deal of satisfaction. He helped my brother "Moon" while he struggled with Alzheimer's disease.
He is a true friend and will remain so, his passing cannot change that.

With heavy hearts, the current and former members of the Massachusetts State Police send their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences for the passing of our friend, Desi Howe.
Desi was a great cop but he kept everything in perspective. Desi had such a gift for keeping his sense of humor in all situations.

I knew Desi while serving as Fire Chief in the Town of Bedford back in the mid '80s and I could not have asked for a better friend or comrade in public safety. I recall having to lock the chief's car every morning, because if I didn't Desi would open the car as he jogged past the station and finsh his morning run with my white helmet on his head.
Desi was a great friend, a good street cop and will be missed by all. Sincerest condolances to his family.

As a member of "Desi's" Mass. State Police Class - the 53rd RTT, he was always keeping things light and was an inspiration when we were going through our training. I came back after our weekend leave, because I knew Desi would be there and keep us in "stiches." He will be missed by all of our remaining 48 members. Our prayers are with his family. jack crawford (Lt. MSP Retired)
