Donald Garland Obituary

Of Framingham, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Garland was born on September 19, 1922 in Newton, the son of the late Arthur and Ebba (Anderson) Garland. Mr. Garland was the beloved husband for 30 years of Nancy R. (Camp) Garland of Framingham. Along with his wife Nancy, Mr. Garland is survived by his business partner Rod McLean of Framingham. He was the brother-in-law of Joan Hinds and her husband Robert; Janet Hill and her husband David all of Franklin, New Hampshire and Linda Brochu and her husband Denis of Exeter, New Hampshire. He is also survived by several cousins and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Garland spent his formative years in Newton and had resided in Framingham for over 50 years. He graduated from Newton High School & attended Clemson College in South Carolina. He played and excelled at football in both high school and college. He served his country during World War II with the United States Navy as an Aviation Ordinanceman, 2nd Class. Mr. Garland had a long and distinguished career in the field of janitorial supplies and equipment. He founded Don Garland Inc. of Framingham in 1945 and retired in January of 2006. He enjoyed carpentry, building houses and remodeling and renovating his own home not once, but twice! He was an avid football and baseball fan following the Patriots and Red Sox. Mr. Garland and his wife spent their leisure time boating on Lake Cochituate in their own backyard. Visitations will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM only at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Route 30), Cochituate Village, WAYLAND. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 10:00 AM in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Pastor Ernest Batten officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Camp family lot in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Don's memory may be sent to Metrowest Hospice, 475 Franklin St, Framingham, MA 01702.
