DONNA GAKOPOULOS COCUZZO

COCUZZO, Donna Gakopoulos Of Newton, MA, and Athens, Greece, died after a brief illness with cancer on July 9, 2022. She was 64. She was the daughter of the late Patricia (Fenlon) Cocuzzo Hanley and Daniel M. Cocuzzo. A graduate of Newton Catholic High School and Wilford Academy. Donna traveled to Greece in her 20s. There, she met and married Christos Gakopoulos. She made Greece her home. Together, Donna and Christos shared a successful business in hair design and raised three beautiful children. Donna was a wonderful mother to Kalli, Daniella (Theofilos Papasternos) both of Athens, and Yanni (Shane Grenley) of New York. Donna was a devoted, loving grandmother to Kalli's two children, Miltiadis and Kristina. Donna and Christos loved going to their village home in Trikala with family during summers and spent as much time as possible at their Porto Rafti home. Donna spoke Greek well and cooked Greek food even better. She was always fashionable, could be ready at a minutes notice, her hair color was often a great surprise, and her arrivals to Boston were always met with great anticipation and excitement. Donna's smile warmed the room. She leaves behind her siblings, Paula Giovinazzo (Michael McCarthy, late husband Joseph Giovinazzo), Marion Schmidlein (James), Patricia Dine, and Jay Cocuzzo. Donna was cherished by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Donna left this life knowing she was loved. Her Memorial Service was held in Greece where she is buried.
