BUFFINGTON, Drucilla M. "Dru" Born in Evanston, Illinois and was the daughter of George Nicholas and Sarah Loise Buffington. Drucilla was the youngest of three children. She had an older sister, Ann and an older brother, Nick. She lived in Barrington, Illinois during her younger years on a family farm with her parents and siblings. Dru and her parents moved to Washington, D.C., during Word War II, when her father, George Nicholas, was Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury and worked with Walt Disney in the war bond drive. After World War II, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, then later to New York City and finally to Quissett Harbor on Cape Cod. Much of these years, Drucilla spent at various boarding schools. She attended Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts and graduated high school from Buckingham in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dru spent her teenage summers teaching sailing on Cape Cod and sailing competitively. After high school, she met Robert "Bob" Boit of Brookline, Massachusetts, who she later married on January 1, 1955. Bob was in the army and the couple moved to Germany, after their marriage for Bob's deployment. After Germany, the couple moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts and had their first child in 1958, Nicholas Buffington Boit. Two years later in 1960, they had their second child, Peggy Boit. In 1967, Dru and Bob separated and divorced. Dru married a second time to Dr. Norman Garber in 1970. Norman remained Dru's partner in life to the end. Dru and Norman were avid travelers and spent much of their time together later in life, travelling throughout Europe and other parts of the globe on cruises and excursions. In the late 1960's, Dru worked for Ben Thomson & Assoc, an architectural firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is where she gained her love for architecture and interior design. While she worked there only a few short years, Dru went on to put her timeless mark on all the houses she owned and built over the years. While not a job, it was truly a passionate outlet for her design expertise. Her final place of residence was Delray Beach, Florida, where she spent the better part of the year since 1998. She spent her summers in Arlington, Massachusetts as she always had a fondness in her heart for New England. Dru leaves behind her partner, Norman Garber; her son, Nicholas Boit, his wife of 38 years, Belinda Boit; and three adult grandchildren, Nathaniel Boit, Jason Boit and his spouse, Kaitlyn Lyngaas-Boit and Henry Boit. The family will have a small private memorial later. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name, to the Arlington Boys & Girls Club, for which she was an active supporter during her life.
