Having recently celebrated her 100th birthday, Edith Tozzer Jordan passed away on Nov. 18, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Sept. 22, 1917. She grew up on the East coast before making a journey to Iowa for a few years then to Phoenix in 1945. She graduated from Smith College in 1938. She was a strong, active leader in the Phoenix community: a professional and volunteer Girl Scout, on the board of Habitat for Humanity in South Phoenix, Stardust Foundation work for which she received the prestigious Hon Kachina award in 2001, and was a founding member of Church of the Beatitudes and the Beatitudes Campus. "To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition, to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived, this is to have succeeded." (Ralph Waldo Emerson) And that she did. She is survived by her daughter Martha Jordan; son David Jordan; and grandchildren Shiloh Jordan, Peter Jordan and Rachel Jordan; and 5 great-grandchildren Zyra, Eli and Cain Jordan, and Kenzo and Kaiya Cripps. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday December 5, 2017 at the Church of the Beatitudes, 555 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix 85021.
