BURKE, Edward G. Of Marshfield, passed peacefully surrounded by his heartbroken family on Friday, September 10, 2021, after a courageous 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer, at age 63. Ed was married for almost 35 years to his wife Kate (nee Flatley), he was the proud father of James (Beth) Burke and Margaret Burke (Liam McCann), and the even prouder Papa of Edward (Ned) and John (Jack) Burke (if you've never seen a picture of Ned or Jack, you haven't seen Ed in the past three years!). Ed was born in Dorchester, MA and was the only son of the late Katherine L. and Edward L. Burke and the cherished brother of Linda (Tom) Corey of Quincy and Katherine (Pat) O'Connor of Weymouth. Ed will also be greatly missed by his "Flatley siblings," Jean & Dan Hickey, Tricia Caviness, Elizabeth & Rick Kozan, Ellen & Kevin Roth, Carolyn & John Robertson, Polly & Jim Resetar, his much-loved nieces and nephews, Caitlin Hunter, Katelyn O'Connor, Emma Hudepohl, Grace Wilson, TJ Roth, Patrick O'Connor, William Robertson, Andrew Roth, Jane Robertson, Theresa Roth, Sean Resetar, Dan Robertson, Claire Caviness and Catherine Resetar, and innumerable amazing and supportive friends. Ed worked for the Gillette Company for 27 years and after retiring from Gillette worked for the U.S. Postal Service and as an usher at the TD Garden, where he enjoyed watching his beloved Boston Bruins. Ed was also a loyal fan of the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics, and the Buffalo Bills (except for two games per year), and a true master of sports trivia. Ed was actively involved in his community as a long-time coach for Marshfield Little League and the South Shore Seahawks, Coastal Stars, and Mass Bay Girls hockey teams, a member of the Saint Ann's by the Sea Parish Council and the Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Myles Standish Council 6649. Ed would be disappointed if we didn't include one of his classic lines, so we will close by sadly saying "Eddie Burke will not be down for breakfast." Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in MARSHFIELD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in Saint Ann's by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, by mail to 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, or online at pancan.org For online guestbook, driving directions and other helpful information please visit the website macdonaldfuneralhome.com MacDonald Funeral Home, Marshfield macdonaldfuneralhome.com

Saddened to hear the news of Eddie´s passing. Although I have not seen him in many years, I have fond memories of playing ball with him in Savin Hill and hoops behind the Eddy Eddy. Although a bit younger, I occasionally hung around with Eddie, my brother Mark and their friends on Thornley Street. Always welcoming. Great athlete and always a kind word. A true gentleman. My condolences to his family. RIP Eddie.
