We were undergraduates together at BU. I didn't know Elaine all that well, but I never forgot her wonderful smile and after 45 years, even though I knew her only as Elaine Jaffe, I instantly recognized her photo in the current issue of Bostonia. It was truly inspiring to read about her accomplishments in the medical field and for BU.

I met Elaine while she worked for the Medical Society in 2002. For the next 10 years we collaborated on Pay for Performance Presentations, a project to understand the effect of the tiering program for practitioners using focus groups, and her work with MHQP. Elaine was a tenacious negotiator, fully committed to her constituents; the physicians of the Mass Medical Society but always in the context of doing what was right for patients. I also spent time with her around the death of her husband and learned so much about marriage, caring and devotion. Her pain at the loss of her husband was so very palpable. Elaine loved her children and always kept me up to date on their lives. She was dedicated to her mother and again, showed me how to care for aging parents. I will miss Elaine's humor, dedication to service and her teaching me about being a caring son, husband and parent. She will be surely missed. My most sincere condolences to her children and the rest of the family.
