ELEANOR MCELROY Obituary

McELROY, Eleanor (Moynihan) Of Cotuit, formerly Belmont, MA, passed away peacefully, on July 8, 2025. Eleanor was born August 22, 1937, in Cambridge, MA, and was the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna Moynihan. Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Eugene McElroy. Eleanor is survived by her devoted daughters, Suzanne McElroy, Julie Quigley (Raymond) Karen Hamilton (Andrew, deceased) and Katie Edwards. She was the cherished grammy of Neil (Courtney), Matthew (Kate), and Timothy Quigley, A.J. (Amanda), Mary Kate and William Hamilton and Colin and Spencer Edwards; and great-grammy to Palmer Rose Hamilton. Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved brothers, Francis (Joan), Frederick (Ruth), Robert Moynihan; and sister-in-law, Ellen McElroy. She leaves behind her loving brother, John (Judy) Moynihan; sisters-in-law, Elena (Harold deceased) McElroy and Fin (Peter, deceased) McElroy. Eleanor is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a proud graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1955 and continued her education at Forsyth, and began a successful and rewarding career as a dental hygienist. Eleanor met her beloved husband, Gene, and got married in 1961. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with family, friends and their unwavering faith. They settled in Belmont and later retired to Cotuit, MA, a special village, where many memories with family and friends continued. Eleanor was dedicated to her community serving for many years as an elected Town Meeting Member. She was a faithful servant of God and taught many years of CCD and served as a eucharistic minister at both St. Joseph's, Belmont and Christ the King, Mashpee. Eleanor was an accomplished athlete, who enjoyed tennis, golf, ice skating and skiing. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her years as an active Osterville Garden Club member. Most notable, Eleanor was a generous and skilled entertainer, making her home a welcoming place, where people loved to gather and enjoy her hospitality and amazing cuisine. Eleanor will be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes and generous spirit. The family would like to thank Eleanor's dedicated and compassionate caregivers Tammie, Tracy and Diane. Visiting Hours will be from 9 to 10:30 am, on Tuesday, July 22, at Chapman Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, MARSTONS MILLS, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, in Christ the King Parish, 3 Jobs Fishing Rd., Mashpee. Burial will follow in Mosswood Cemetery, in Cotuit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eleanor's memory to: CTK Food Pantry, c/o Christ the King Parish, The Commons, P.O.
