ELLEN RITA "EVELYN" FLAHERTY

FLAHERTY, Ellen "Evelyn" Rita (Gilmore) Of Arlington, formerly of Brighton, passed away on June 25, 2024. Beloved wife of the late John "Frank" Flaherty. Devoted mother of Margaret "Maggie" and her husband, Rich Greco of Arlington, John Flaherty of Long Beach, CA, Kevin Flaherty and his wife, Stephanie of Foxborough and Elaine and her husband, Dermot Dundon of Burlington. Loving grandmother of Ashley (Greco) and her husband, John Murphy and Michael Greco and his fiancée, Bridgette Townsend, Julia, Jack, Caitlin and Owen Flaherty and Paul, Courtney and Kayla Dundon. Dear sister of Mary Coffey and her husband, Joseph of Hudson, MA; as well as the following sisters in Ireland, Kay Concannon and her late husband, Chris, Ann Gilmore, Margaret Smith and her late husband, Pat, Bridget Lawless and her husband, Pat, Sally Grealy and her husband, John, Claire Gilmore and the late Julia Killilea. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Ballyloughane Village, Renmore, Galway, Ireland, Evelyn immigrated to the U.S. in 1960 and settled in Waltham, MA. Soon thereafter, she met Frank and they were married on June 1, 1963 at St. Columbkille Church in Brighton, MA. They lived in Brighton until 1995, when they moved to Arlington, MA. Evelyn was a doting wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister and friend, always willing to lend a hand and open her home to visitors from near and far. She was active in the Irish Cultural Center and Irish Pastoral Center. She liked to dance, travel with Frank and all their friends and bake her wonderful Irish soda bread. Funeral from the Lehman Reen & McNamara Funeral Home, 63 Chestnut Hill Ave. (near Brighton Courthouse), BRIGHTON, on Wednesday, July 3, at 9:30am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Columbkille Church, 321 Market St., Brighton, at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting Hours on Tuesday, July 2, from 4 to 8pm. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
