I was a member of Troop 7 in West Roxbury and have many wonderful memories of spending Summers at Storer with Mr. T. It is hard to find the words to adequately describe the joy and vitality that he brought to everything he did. From singing and drumming to wake us up in the morning to his campfire poems that were the comedic highlight of a week at summer camp, he truly brought joy to all those that he shared himself with. I only wish I had been more proactive in thanking him for being such a wonderful role model. He will truly be missed.

Mr. Tinory,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Gene was my neighbor and friend all of my life. His dedication to his mother, his job, the army, the scouts, and the countless organizations he volunteered his time to will ensure his legacy lives on for many years to come.
His garden was a reflection of the man: A perennial champion.

I had the pleasure to work with Gene for 2 summers getting his unit's paperwork ready for camp. His smile and genuine happiness made the paperwork time fly by.
His poem at the end of summer camp 2007 mentioned my son who was a CIT. His Uncle, who had been a staffer for years and years at Storer, poked him at the end of the poem and declared "T, you are a living legend now. Mr. T gave you a whole verse." My son was perhaps more impressed by that than by winning CIT of the year.
May the joyous memories lighten our grief at losing Mr. T.

I was a Boy Scout of Gene Tinory from troop 7 and will always have many happy memories of the times that I got to spend with him up at Storer and sitting on his front proch. He was a man who I admire and idol. He was always upbeat, charismatic and always comedic. He is one of the best men I could ever hope to know and am honored by knowing him. While losing him is a great loss to all of us, I will always remember his vitality for life and the enthusiasm with which he attacked every goal he set.

My brothers and sister and I have very fond and very funny memories of Mr. Tinory. He was a fascinating teacher that made world political events come alive in his history class. He was truly inspirational in teaching us that there was a whole world out there waiting for us to explore. Thank you Mr. Tinory for opening our eyes.

My deepest condolences from a former student and WOSC President (1973). Mr. Tinory will be forever remembered as a kind, compassionate and patriotic individual who lived and brought these traits into the classroom everyday ... along with a wonderful sense of humor! He was a great mentor among students and colleagues alike. I was planning to chaperone this year's WOSC trip with him and am sorry I put it off last year. He will be greatly missed.

Gene Tinory was a patriotic American and most proud of his country. He was a kind, considerate and always upbeat. On Saturday, November 24th, he received the N.G. Beram Veterans Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to that organization. He will be sorely missed.

mr. tinory never forgot me,as i was the student that missed the bus to nyc back in 1972! he allowed me to go the next year with my sister's class. it was worth the trip! he was a riot on the bus ride ,singing songs most of the way. he brought diversity to a sleepy town with the incredible speakers he had in his after school program' WOSC.' i looked forward to a new lecture every week.mr. tinory was always able to get people from all walks of life to talk about their global travels.those were fun times! i had the pleasure of talking to him last year (i'm lucky enough to know his great niece lauren and his nephew fred) a trip down memory lane...'wonderful,wonderful!' he said when i told him about my brother and 3 sisters, how their lives were after those years at thurston jr. high.he truly loved his students, and is one of those characters in life that one never forgets! mr. tinory, you were 'wonderful wonderful!'

Teacher of a father and sponsor of the father's Eagle Scout son. Gene admired the finer and beautiful things in life. His creativity created beauty. His energy, kindess, and inspiration has led so many to a live a higher path. Mentor of the boy scouts, a chorus of "Mr. T," "Mr. T." will remain in our memories forever. Condolences. Thanks Mr. T!

My sons always came home from Storer with stories of the fun they had and Mr. Tinory featured in many of those stories. His kindness and generosity with the Scouts was wonderful and will be sorely missed. Thank you Mr. Tinory. (On behalf of the Martin brothers, Troop 20 Everett.)

Mr Tinory took some of us to New York City on a junior high trip back in the 1960's. He taught us about the UN and our government. It was a trip I have never forgotten. I remember him as a teacher who truely cared and loved what he did for a living. He made a difference in many Junior High Westwood students academic lives. I remember him as a vibrant and humorous man. He will be missed and remembered by many.
