EVANGELINE GURAK Obituary
Business owner, world traveler and generous soul passed away on Tuesday, July 9th at her home in Windham, NH. Vangie was born in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School and Fisher College in Boston, MA. Upon graduation she worked for the State Department moving her to Seoul, Korea where she met and later married her soul mate. After returning to the US, she and Deniz made Windham their home after some years on Beacon Hill in Boston. Windham was fond to her, for her childhood summers were spent there on Cobbetts Pond. She yearned to see the world and worked for Olympic Airlines in Boston before founding Angora Travel Inc. in 1975. Vangie enjoyed running her agency. Her bags were always packed. She was always ready to experience something new and create memories. Vangie lived for today. She loved to gamble. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family. She made friends feel like family and strangers feel like friends. She loved. She was loved. She will be missed. Vangie is survived by her husband of 45 years Deniz Gurak of Windham, daughter Lexie Gonzalez and son-in-law Tomas of Windham, two grandchildren Trey and Max of Windham, brother Paul Mavris and partner Dan Beale of Portland, ME, brother Peter Mavris and wife Nan Gurley of Keezer Falls, ME and niece Renay Smallcomb of Wakefield, MA. She is predeceased by her parents, Christy and Mercy (Maroskos) Mavris, sister Chris Smallcomb and nephew Aaron Smallcomb. Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 12th from 5:00-8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, SALEM, NH. There will be a private burial at Cemetery on the Plain in Windham, NH. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to her grandson's Jimmy Fund Little League Team (Trey Gonzales- Windham 10U Gray) to help support Dana Farber Cancer Institute's fight against cancer. Vangie was a true friend. I even named my only son after Deniz. I use to live in Stoneham, MA. I really miss Vangie and I pray for Deniz and Lexie.

I don't know if you remember us, but I knew the Mavris Family for many years. Anne and I had booked many trips with Vangie early on in our marriage. I can't tell you how shocked I was to hear of Vangies passing just recently. She was a wonderful person and you were a great husband to her. Our condolences to you and your daughter.

Dear Deniz and Lexie. I just got a message from Ursula telling me of Vangie's passing. What a shock. In the last few weeks, I've been thinking of her a lot. When I read the obituary I couldn't help but smile at the comment the she loved to gamble! I remember so well a weekend before Lexie was born that she and Deniz went to Las Vegas. Deniz gambled as they walked in to the hotel and won a jackpot! Deniz wanted to keep gambling, but Vangie put her foot down and you flew back to Boston. Was so shocked and saddened to hear of Vangie's passing. My heart goes out to Deniz,Lexie,Tomas,Trey,Max, and my co-workers at Angora Travel.Vangie was the best, and a true original. My heart breaks to learn of Vangie's death. She was a dear and loving friend. A compassionate and good person of the first order. She got me where I wanted to travel as well as people in my companies. We were friends for 35 years. I loved her. She will forever be in my heart. My deepest condolences to you, Deniz and Lexie and your families. I know Vangie meant the world to you and she loved you with all her heart. My heart breaks for your tremendous loss. Vangie was one of my most favorite customers (well, ok, Deniz too!) She was lovely and compassionate and so very supportive of both my good friend, Anna while she was dealing with her cancer, and me, when she found out I was diagnosed. It hasn't been so long since I last saw her, within the last 4 months, and I shall never forget her loving embrace and kind heart. I am so sorry, Deniz.
