FRANCESCO GIOIOSO Obituary

GIOIOSO, Francesco "Frank" Age 80, passed away, with God and his family by his side, on April 12, 2023, at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts, after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Frank was born on February 16, 1943 to the late Pelino and Giovanna (D'Amore) Gioioso in the small hamlet of Viano in Filetto, Italy. In 1958, Frank immigrated to the United States and joined his family who had established roots in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Frank's early years were a balance of education and work. In 1962, Pelino, Frank and four of his brothers established the family company, P. Gioioso & Sons, Inc. The ambitious young entrepreneur was eager to support the company in the role of Treasurer and General Manager. Frank would go on to seek higher education, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering in 1969 and subsequently his Master's Degree in 1971 in Structural Engineering, both from Northeastern University, of which he was extremely proud. Frank was a member of UCANE and NUCA, holding various office positions and receiving numerous awards. He used the skills and knowledge he gained over the years in the field and at school to continue to grow the family business, eventually becoming CEO, a position he held until his passing. Frank moved to Braintree in 1976, where he ultimately met the love of his life, Carmela "Lina" D'Ambrosio. The couple would be wed on June 21, 1981 in Saint John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop, Massachusetts. Frank and Lina began making memories and started their family in Braintree before moving to their family home in Walpole, Massachusetts on March 19, 1987. Frank supervised the home's construction from the day it was framed through its many renovations and expansions. Just steps outside the home, Frank was an avid gardener. He would spend hours tending to his garden where he grew zucchini, eggplant, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, butternut squash, and strawberries among many other delicious fruits and vegetables that the family enjoyed. While the fruits of one's labor are always the sweetest, Frank would never turn down an opportunity to have a meal at his favorite restaurant: The Chateau in Norwood. Life was not all work and Frank enjoyed many hobbies. Never forgetting his Italian heritage, Frank was an active member of the Dante Alighieri Society and The Pirandello Lyceum and frequently attended their events as well as other dance nights, operas, and ballets. He was a dedicated fan of the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution, supporting them through as many games he could as a season ticket holder for the two teams. Evenings at home were spent doing sudoku, dancing to old Italian songs, and flipping between Danny Kaye movies and watching the news. On vacation, he could be found relaxing in a jacuzzi or playing tennis with his kids. He was a proud Republican and would follow all of the political happenings, both nationally and locally, as he supported many candidates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Frank lived many of the values of his culture; he was dedicated, courageous, kind, family oriented and charitable. He was a devout Catholic, attending Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole for 36 years. He worked hard every day of his life and never retired, always wanting to build a better life for his family, friends, and those who worked for him. Frank was generous, supporting innumerable charities and helping those less fortunate than him without hesitation. Most of all, Frank cherished his family, especially his beautiful wife Lina and his four wonderful children. Beloved husband of Carmela M. "Lina" Gioioso. Loving father of Dr. Cristina Gioioso-Datta and her husband, Dr. Rupak Datta, of Woodbridge, Connecticut, Gianna Gioioso of Dedham, Dr. Valeria Gioioso of San Diego, California, and Francesco Biagio Gioioso of Norfolk. Cherished nonno of Kavi, Chiara, and Cali Datta. Doting son-in-law of Giovanna and the late Armando D'Ambrosio of Winthrop. Caring brother of Giuseppe Gioioso of Braintree, Maria DiNanno of Norwood, and Elena Adgate of Braintree as well as the late Luigi Gioioso, Enrico Gioioso, Tommaso Gioioso, Filomena Colasante, and Mario Gioioso. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Frank's Visitation on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm, in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common St., WALPOLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond St., Walpole, on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 10:30 am. Interment will take place at Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frank's name may be made to either Italian Home for Children, https://www.italianhome.org/ or Tunnels to Towers Foundation, https://t2t.org/donate/ in order to celebrate Frank's charitable spirit.
