FRANK D. BRAKO

BRAKO, Frank D. Age 97, a longtime resident of Acton, passed away, on Monday, August 14, at his home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Brako was born on October 4, 1925 in New York City, NY. He was the son of the late Dominick and Mary (Marussich) Brako. Mr. Brako proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received the Bronze Star and was present at the Battle of the Bulge. He would go on to attend Queens College and graduated with a bachelor of science degree. Frank worked as a chemist for W.R. Grace & Co. for over 40 years. He was involved for many years with the Senior Olympians in Track and Field. Frank was a Massachusetts state gold medal winner, numerous times in high jump, long jump and even track and was a national champion in the triple jump. He also received a 1st place award with the Mass Chapter Rhododendron Society, with a rhododendron he propagated and named after his wife, Marie. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie C. (Bracco) Brako of Acton; one daughter, Anne Marie Brako and her husband, Richard Sayde of Winchester; one son, Frank Brako, Jr. and his wife, Stacey Isles-Brako of Boston; and four grandchildren, Alex Brako Sayde of San Francisco, Rox Brako Sayde of Austin, Devon Brako and John Brako, both in Castleberry, Florida. He was predeceased by his son, John A. Brako, who passed in 2019; and his brother, John Brako; and sister, Lorraine Brako. A Visitation will be held in the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave., ACTON, on Friday, August 18, 2023, from 5-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton, on Saturday August 19, at 10:00 AM.
