EDWARDS, Frank Aldrich NEW HAVEN, CT - Frank Aldrich Edwards II, age 80, died peacefully on November 28, 2017. Known as Aldy, he was born in Boston to Richard Hadley and Grace (Ingersoll) Edwards. He attended the Fenn School in Concord, MA and the St. Paul's School in Concord, NH. After graduation from Yale in 1959, he married Carolyn Van Vleck of Montclair, NJ and settled in Guilford, CT where their three children were born. While Aldy's professional life began in banking, the work most fulfilling to him was in historic preservation, urban planning and economic development. In 1976, he was instrumental in creating the Architectural Conservation Trust (ACT for Massachusetts), a revolving fund for preservation and redevelopment projects across Massachusetts. During the 80s, as Executive Director of the New Haven Downtown Council, he was recognized for building effective public-private partnerships to promote mixed-use economic development in New Haven, CT. Aldy later served as Executive Director of the historic Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT, where he focused on protecting the historic landscape while planning for future cemetery business. Aldy had a passion for the arts, choral singing, local theater, sports, politics and games of strategy. He was devoted to family genealogy and related historical research. Aldy was a member of Trinity Church in New Haven. He is survived by his three children Anne (and Gary) Westerman of Southbury, CT, Peter Van Vleck Edwards of San Francisco,CA, and Eliza (and Doug) Burden of Arlington, MA; and his brother Jared Ingersoll (and Clare) Edwards of West Hartford, CT. He also leaves his eight beloved grandchildren Kenny and Brian Westerman; Grace, Will and Tucker Edwards; Abigail, Natalie and Zeke Burden; and many other dear friends and relatives. He was predeceased by sister Anne Edwards Winsor Boutwell and brother Richard Hadley Edwards III. A memorial service will take place on Fri., December 22, 11am at Story Chapel, Mt Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, MA.
