Garret Fuller Obituary

Of Linden Ponds in Hingham, died at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on Monday, March 31, 2008. He was 89 years of age. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Mary Fuller, his daughters Christine Tinstman of Lexington and Wendy Fuller of Los Angeles, four grandchildren: Kimberly Hine, Lt. Lance Tinstman, USCG, Kristi and Tracie Totten and 2 great-grandchildren: Andrew and Austin Hine. Garret graduated from Newton Schools, attended Union College, was a member of Sigma Phi and graduated from Dallas Aviation School as a pilot. Prior to the US entering WWII he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an instructor. In 1941 he joined the US Army Air Corp as a 1st Lt. and flew over 50 missions as a fighter pilot in Italy and Sicily. In April 1945 Garret was chosen with his squadron to fly over President Roosevelt's burial at Arlington Nat'l Cemetery. In 1945 he became a 1st officer with American Airlines and earned his captain's wings in 1951. He was based in Boston and later San Diego. Following his retirement, he enjoyed many years of sailing his boat in California and then after moving back to the east coast sailing from Florida to Maine, occasionaly single handed. He also enjoyed cruising the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands. He was a former member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead and the San Diego Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the charity of your choice. Burial will be private. Arrangements by the McDonald Funeral Homes of Weymouth. Mr. Fuller,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army Air Forces in Europe during WW II. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
