GENNARO AMENO Obituary

AMENO, Gennaro Anthony "JJ" Of Boston's North End and Popponesset, Cape Cod, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston on December 2, 1929, Gennaro was the first of his family to be born in America to the late Carlo and Sofia (DiPrizio) Ameno. He was proud of his roots and of the life he built through hard work, faith, and love for family. Gennaro was the devoted and loving husband of Adeline (Giarla) Ameno for 73 beautiful years. Together they created a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, family gatherings, and unconditional love. He was the cherished father of Carl Ameno and his life partner Maria Shea, Michael Ameno and his late wife Rosanne (DiLeo) Ameno, and Sofia (Ameno) Raffael and her husband Ernest. Proud grandfather of Michelle (Ameno) Gallotto and her husband Nick, Gennaro Ameno, Mario Ameno, Jenna Raffael, and Evan Raffael. Adoring great-grandfather of Leo and Adrian Gallotto, who brought endless joy to his days. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts. He was predeceased by his beloved siblings Theresa Hutto, Pasquale Ameno, Italia "Edie" Casal, and Anthony Ameno. Gennaro was a proud graduate of Boston Technical High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Boston University and his master's degree and architectural certificate from the Boston Architectural School in 1969. He also honorably served his country in the United States Army. A man of deep passions and quiet strength, Gennaro found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was a member of the Boston YMCA for more than 50 years, where he could often be found playing handball and sharing stories with friends. A lifelong Red Sox and Ted Williams fan, Gennaro never missed a game and loved sharing that devotion with his family. He treasured his time at the Cape house in Mashpee, where he enjoyed sailing, painting watercolors, and watching sunsets with Adeline by his side. His kind heart, easy smile, and gentle wisdom will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends will honor Gennaro's life by Gathering at St. Leonard's Church in the North End on Monday, November 10, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in his honor beginning at 10:30 AM. Services will conclude with Gennaro being laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gennaro's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements under the care of Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, EAST BOSTON.
