GEORGE HARDEN Obituary

HARDEN, George "Gig" Of Bridgton, ME, age 77, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Saturday, January 15, 2022.

George made his entrance on May 2, 1944, and was the life of the party thereafter. He loved to sing and dance in CYO shows, New Neponset Players, Lake Region Community Chorus and no family or friends gathering escaped a round of karaoke or the old soft shoe. His love of dance and music is continued on by all of his children and grandchildren either going to or performing in chorus', musicals, and film whenever possible.

George began his career in the newspaper industry at the Boston Globe tossing papers onto the stoops of Dorchester, MA. While attending Mass Bay Community College and Suffolk University, he worked at the Globe on the Display desk. He continued working at the Globe in the advertising department until he retired as Assistant Advertising Director in 2000, where he left in style, purchasing a sports car on his way home from work that final day.

Camping, skiing, golfing, pickleball, racquetball, softball, running, boating, and traveling were some of his favorite pastimes. He and Lorraine embraced every opportunity to be with friends and family, involved in acts of giving and the occasional practical joke, with more love to give than seemed possible.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine (Mooney) Harden, children Debra Harden, Lynda Picard and husband Shawn, Daniel Harden and wife Alyssa, and Marybeth MacPherson and husband Steve. Loving brother to Patricia Harden Finnegan and Marie Mooney. Predeceased by his parents George E. Harden and Eleanor (Tierney) Harden. Forever remembered by his 13 grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

His humor, generosity, and commitment to family and friends will never be forgotten and will be carried on by all those who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Service celebrating George's life will be held at 10:30AM, on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, at the Bridgton Alliance Church, 368 Harrison Road, in Bridgton. Following the service, all in attendance are welcome to join George's family at the Campfire Grille, 518 Portland Road, in Bridgton where they will be hosting a time of fellowship, refreshment, loud music and good dancing. In lieu of flowers, his family asks for consideration in sending a donation in his memory, to the Bridgton Community Center, 15 Depot St., Bridgton, ME 04009; online at https://www.bridgtoncommunitycenter.org/donation or the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club, PO Box 845, Bridgton, ME 04009. Arrangements are in the care of the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Road in CASCO, ME, where tributes may be shared with George's family at www.hallfuneralhome.net

Dear family and friends, George and I where roommates during our college years. Our lives went in different directions for years as George married his lovely wife, Lorraine and raised his wonderful family.
Along with family, George had the Boston Globe. It was a unique company owned by the Taylor Family who treated all the employees like family. Many of the employees worked under George and he adopted many of the care and work ethics of the Taylors.
George looked over his employees with the same care and respect that he had for his children.
Whether you were his wife children or a person from the Globe you were all very lucky to have George there for you.
As his friend he invited me to share many Christmas Parties with his family for which I am eternally grateful. Be well my friend, until we meet again.
With Gods blessing“s,
John Abdelahad
