GLEN PHILLEY Obituary

PHILLEY, Glen A. Of Melrose, died unexpectedly and peacefully on Friday, December 17, 2021, at age 45. Glen was born in Melrose on June 24, 1976, the beloved son of Lorna (Peabody) and George Philley of Melrose. He was the cherished brother of Jennifer Zolot and her husband Ken of Cambridge. Dear nephew of Martha Peabody of Gloucester, Gerald Philley and his wife Heidi of Davenport, FL, Greg Philley and his wife Lynne of Taberg, NY, the late Jonathan Peabody and his late wife Norma, and the late Georgianna Ledgerwood and her surviving husband Tom. He is also survived by many cousins and friends. From a young age Glen showed an interest and talent for art, especially drawing and painting. He studied studio art at Belmont Hill School and art history at Bates College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1998. For graduate school Glen attended the University of Michigan and earned a master's degree in architecture. He later held positions at the architectural firms Whitney Atwood Norcross Associates and Touloukian Touloukian Inc. Glen excelled at games of skill and strategy and poker was his passion. He was also an avid reader with a vast personal library of classic novels and essays on pop culture. With friends and family, Glen enjoyed restaurants, movies, art museums, and conversations about books. Recently he renewed his painting practice and was exploring photography. A loyal and caring person, Glen was always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need and make time for those he loved. He was a true individual with a distinct personal style and perspective that evolved from his eclectic interests. He will be warmly remembered and dearly missed. Relatives and friends will be invited to a Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose at a time to be announced in 2022. A private Burial Service for immediate family will be held at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose. Gifts in Glen's memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church www.fumcmelrose.org or Bread of Life www.breadoflifemalden.org or More Than Words www.mtwyouth.org For online tribute or to send a message of condolence, visit RobinsonFuneralHome.com Life Celebration by Robinson Funeral Home

Glen was a dear childhood friend. His kindness and acceptance still linger with me today as such standout behavior.

We spent many hours skateboarding all around Melrose. We would walk talk, laugh and we´re constantly working on our jokes and inside humor to make each other laugh.

I would have loved to of kept touch with him as I knew he had a passion for music and I am sure as adults we could have picked up where we left off.

If I had another chance to hang out with Glen one this is for sure I would thank him for his kindness. My guess is he had no idea the profound and everlasting affect it had.

So thank you buddy. You were one of a kind. Rest easy.

I am so very sorry to hear about Glen. I am only learning about this now.

I met Glen in Nantes, France during our college years. We remained close throughout college and many years after, although we did lose touch recently. Glen was always kind, funny, and a wonderful friend. I will keep Glen in my prayers.

Glen was a very close and dear friend and I am in complete shock. He was so thoughtful, kind, funny, and sweet. I will especially miss doing crossword puzzles with him, the silly memes he would send me, the great music mixes he would make me, and our long conversations about anything and everything. So many memories - I will never forget him.

Dear Glen, The news of your passing is hard to bear. Arty called me this morning to tell me.

I'm so glad you both reconnected and by extension, with our family as well. It was always a pleasure when you dropped in for a visit and chatted with us and took a trip down memory lane. You hadn't changed in more than 20 years: ever youthful, that boyish smile and your brilliance was evident in your quiet demeanor especially when you spoke.

Besides your gentle soul, you had an innate discernment of the world, particularly current events. I wish I could thank you for the articles you shared starting with James Lindsay that opened my eyes to what was happening around us.

You were awake while the rest of us were asleep.

What do we do now without your light in this new Dark Age?

We will continue to fight the good fight in your memory.

God rest your soul, Glen. We will never forget you.
