HAROLD PHILLIP BERK

1925 - 2014

BERK, Harold Phillip 88, Passed peacefully on March 9, 2014, with his loving family by his side. Harold was born in Newark, NJ, on May 12, 1925 and was the son of Abe and Esther (Zich) Berkowitz. He is predeceased by his brother, Morton Berk. He grew up in Newton, MA and attended Tilton Academy in New Hampshire. Harold was a voracious reader and led an active life of golf and skiing with his family and friends. He was loved by all for his sense of humor and respected for his wisdom. Harold owned Songo Shoe Mfg. Corp. in Portland, Maine, and following its closing in 1979, he was involved in several entrepreneurial ventures, most recently with Traditional Breads in Lynn, MA. He leaves his wife, Bernice (Bunny) Berk, daughter Nancy and husband Alan Kaufman, son Martin and his wife Kathleen, son Robert, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
