Helen Dow Obituary

Of N. Marshfield, passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness, early Sunday morning, January, 14. The daughter of Nils J. Oman of S. Windham, Connecticut, and Edna G. Oman of Brooklyn NY, Helen was born in Camden, New Jersey raised in nearby Merchantville NJ, and spent her summers living in Humarock Mass. Upon completion of high school, she attended Beaver College and Bucknell University, in Pennsylvania, where she majored in micro-biology. She moved to Massachusetts permanently in 1957 where she then worked at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston as a Bacteriologist. An avid follower of outdoor activities, Helen was an accomplished scuba diver who excelled at catching lobsters and also enjoyed fishing, swimming and kayaking. She also had a passion for gardening, walking in the woods, and playing duplicate bridge, while also keenly following politics, economics, and world affairs. Helen will be very sadly missed by her husband of 49 years, James A. Dow III of Marshfield, a daughter, Edna Smith of Marshfield, and a son, James A. Dow IV of W. Barnstable. Remembrances will be privately held by those who were touched by her love, friendship and generosity, and the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of choice, or to Hospice of the South Shore, whose help and support through this difficult time was truly appreciated.

There are no words I can possibly write that can express truly what an amazing and beautiful woman my Aunt Helen was.
She was my touchstone and my biggest supporter. I learned so much from her and am so thankful to have known her, not only as my aunt, but as a woman, who had a kind and loving spirit and such a giving heart. She always loved me unconditionally and I am such a blessed and grateful woman because of that love.
I miss our talks so much and miss you so much.
I know that you are watching over all of us with your beautiful smile.

Helen was a lovely woman and the world has become a lesser place with her passing... Our love and prayers are with the family during this difficult and trying time...

To the Dow Family,

We shall miss Helen, her winning smile, kind words and easy laughter. Intelligence, loyalty wit and courage shone through that gentle woman.
The lights have dimmed on Cornhill Lane.
May God bless you, Jim, ED and Jay.

Helen always greeted people with a great big smile. That smile I will always remember and miss. She was a great lady and we will miss her deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

To all that read this piece,
Helen was my favorite relative and I will miss here terribly. She and I shared stories about our mutual cancers and how we dealt with it. She was very intuitive about the world and I'll always miss our discussions. Helen, you will be missed by one and all!

To all who read this:
Helen was and still is a remarkable woman. We were all very blessed to have shared her life. Even though coming to Humarock will never be the same for me, I will always cherish our times together. I will miss her terribly for ever.

To Jim, Jay & ED,
My memories of Helen will last for ever. She & I shared many happy times with you all and others in our family. She was my rock.
She is now the angel sitting on all our shouders, reminding us of the wonderful days past.
My love to you all,
