REV. HENRY J. STONIE Sr.

1931 - 2022

STONIE, Rev. Henry J. Sr. Hampton, NH - The Reverend Henry Jon Stonie, Sr. died in Hampton, New Hampshire on Tuesday, May 17th. He was 90 years old. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Northeastern University in 1953, a Bachelor of Divinity at Andover Newton Theological School in 1957, a Master of Art in Sociology at Boston University in 1959, and a Doctorate in Education in 1972. Henry joined the faculty at Emerson College in Boston while attending Boston University. He held the position of Chair of the Humanities and Social Science Department for twelve years until his retirement at the age of 70 in 2002. In 1998, he took a sabbatical to teach at Kaunas University in Vilnius, Lithuania. Henry served six years as minister of Christ Church Unitarian in Dorchester. In 1967, he served as warden of Hampton Falls Congregational Church in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, and was their weekly minister during the summer season. He also served on the Board at Union Chapel in North Hampton, New Hampshire. He married Mary Jo Czarick on July 8, 1961. It was in the late 1960's when they built a home on the beach on Ocean Boulevard next to a rental property, the Dory In. He served on the Hampton Zoning Board for over ten years. Henry Stonie is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mary Jo; his two sons Dorian and Henry Stonie, Jr.; Cathy (Ogawa) Stonie, and Carlos Soto-Chaves. He is also survived by his two grandsons, Matthew Kai Stonie and Morgan Joe Stonie. He will be forever remembered for his sense of humor and dry wit.
