HERBERT FARMER Obituary

FARMER, Herbert E., Jr. 94, of Mystic CT, formerly of Arlington, MA, died peacefully July 2, 2012 at Avalon Healthcare Center. Loving husband for 68 years of the late Marjorie (Pearson). Beloved father of Herbert E. Farmer, III and his wife Mary of Arlington, Gary Farmer and his wife Jane of Gorham, ME and Marjorie Farmer and her partner Valerie Popkin of Mystic, CT. Dear grandfather of Lynne Farmer, Gregg Farmer and his wife Laurel, Christopher Farmer and his wife Melissa and Kimberley Farmer-Glaser and her husband Loren. Proud great grandfather of Zachary, Nicholas and Colin. Uncle of Thomas Foster and Doris Hussey. He was predeceased by his 5 older siblings. An Arlington businessman for more than 45 years, Herb was a residential and industrial painting contractor. He participated in town life as an active member of Kiwanis, the Pleasant Street Congregational Church and as an avid supporter of local athletics. Always active himself, he was truly a sports enthusiast. Beyond being a huge fan of the Boston area professional sports teams, Herb had a unique appreciation of any game and how it was played. He was an exceptionally hard worker, yet always sought time to be among family and friends. His lengthy retirement afforded him many years to share his remarkable wit and warmth with his enlarging family and special friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 7, at DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Massachusetts Avenue, ARLINGTON, with visitation commencing at 12 noon and a service at 1 p.m. Interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Herb's name may be made to: Recreation Fund, Avalon Healthcare Center, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, CT 06355. Herb's family would like to express their appreciation to the dedicated staff at Avalon for their thoughtful and compassionate care.

Mr. Farmer would spend time in the backyard aviary explaining how he harvests honey while seemingly covered with them! I was amazed and the Topsfield Fair beekeepers displays of active honeycombs always reminded me of Mr. Farmer. Sorry for your loss.
