Herb brought me and many others into public service, building a great law firm for the City of Boston in the process. He had an eye for talent: Edith Fine, later a judge of the Appeals Court; Suzanne DelVecchio, later Chief Justice of the Superior Court; Wayne Budd, later United States Attorney for Massachusetts etcetc. He was a great friend, mentor and supporter for me as his First Assistant. What an honor. I just learned of his death and have not recovered yet. I'm sure the entire Law Department remaining members feel the same way, all agreeing on the great gratitude we have for this splendid leader and man. Thanks again Herb, John A. Fiske

Consummate gentleman. It was an absolute honor to hear you speak before Ward 5 and to have you preside over the candidate forum in October.
