HEYWARD CUTTING

CUTTING, Heyward Of Concord, March 18, 2012. Born in New York City, December 3, 1921 to Heyward and Constance (Roberson) Cutting, he was the brother of Patricia C. Glenn of London, England and of the late Constance de Bodard de la Jacopiere. Married to Jeremy Hohenstein in 1948, he was the father of Heyward Jr. of Staunton, Virginia; Francis Brockholst of Shelburne Falls; and William Bayard of Guilford, Connecticut. He leaves five grandchildren. Following his divorce in 1978 he married Joan Faulkner Randell, with whom he moved from Cambridge to Concord in 1982. He was stepfather to Thomas William Randell. A 1939 graduate of Eton College, he studied at Harvard and in 1953 received a B.Sc. in architecture and design from Illinois Institute of Technology. From 1954-56 he was a partner in the Cambridge firm of Chermayeff and Cutting, architects and industrial designers, and later a vice-president of Geometrics Inc. in Cambridge. He also engaged in private practice. For many years a trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, he was appointed Assistant Director for Administration from 1968-73. During World War II he served in the British Army (King's Royal Rifle Corps, 60th Rifles) in Egypt and Italy, and was mentioned in despatches. He was a longtime member of the Tavern Club in Boston.
