Inace Dobberteen Obituary

DOBBERTEEN, Inace (Shoun) Passed away peacefully at her Falmouth MA home Feb. 9, 2011 after a long illness, with her daughter Shana, daughter-in-law Ellen, stepdaughter Lisa and dog Mitzi at her side. She was born May 23, 1942 in Guthrie OK to Mable and Oliver Shoun. She is survived by her beloved husband of 23 years Bruce Dobberteen, her daughter, Shana Truel and her wife Ellen Kirkendall, both of Oklahoma City, stepchildren Lisa Dobberteen of Cambridge MA, Ross Dobberteen and Lisa Urry of El Cerrito CA, Matthew and wife Diyanna Dobberteen of Santa Barbara CA. She was an adoring and really fun grammy to Abby, Andy, Lily and Alex. She was one of thirteen children; surviving siblings are brothers Buddy Shoun and F.D. Shoun of Oklahoma City, sisters, Ann Paxson and Rita Shoun of Oklahoma City, Lorene Wegner of Maumelle AR, Ila Danskin of Pueblo CO and Nancy Humphries of Denton TX. She always enjoyed the company of her 23 nieces and nephews. Inace founded the highly successful Travel By Inace in Oklahoma City in 1975 doing what she loved best: travel. She and Bruce retired to Cape Cod in 1990, and made their home in the warm community of Menahaunt in Falmouth. For years they were snowbirds, spending winters on the beautiful Isles of Capri in Naples FL. Her passions always included travel: she visited every continent except Antarctica. She was a highly effective fundraiser and enthusiastic member of community groups in Oklahoma, Florida, and Massachusetts, supporting the arts, theatre, gardening, and people in need. She delighted in the creation and production of the highly acclaimed Falmouth Garden Club newsletter. She was an extraordinary person like no other, who will be missed. A celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2011 in Menauhant. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Guthrie Public Library, Guthrie OK or the foundation in her memory at Bethany High School, Bethany, OK.

Hi Shana........JB and I haven't seen your Mom for years. We were wondering not too long ago where she was and it sounds like she was very happy. What good times we had with her.......a very special person. I sent a copy of the obituary to her friend Annie in the Cayman Islands. Sometimes when we go to Hot Springs we think of her and the big dog Beauregard...........lots of good memories. I know you will miss her. We will too.

Anyone who leaves a gift to a public library must be a mensch! Inace will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

We are very sorry for your loss. Somehow I never met Inace but over the years I heard a lot about her from my sister Lisa, her husband Ross, and their kids, my niece Lily Dobberteen, and my nephew, Alex Urry. She was loved and will be missed.
